Is the Pentagon spying on Americans? Secret database obtained by NBC News tracks suspicious domestic groups.
WASHINGTON - A year ago, at a Quaker Meeting House in Lake Worth, Fla., a small group of activists met to plan a protest of military recruiting at local high schools. What they didn't know was that their meeting had come to the attention of the U.S. military.
A secret 400-page Defense Department document obtained by NBC News lists the Lake Worth meeting as a threat and one of more than 1,500 suspicious incidents across the country over a recent 10-month period.

What's subversion? Protesting a government's policy? Were we supposed to shut up and salute instead of impeach Clinton just because he was "fighting terrorism" and "at war in the Balkans"???? Say, that's a good reason for any leader to start a war..
You sound as lame as the liberals who claimed Abu-Ghrab was directed by Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld. That Lindy England was only following orders.
Now that you brought that up, how in the world was a borderline-retarded, illiterate little desk clerk ever in a position to BE in charge of high-value, dangerous terror suspects? The PR was disasterous, and that sure as hell undermined our mission in Iraq - but we're not supposed to demand any accountability from our leaders?
President Hitlery would love to have those arguments all lined up to defend HER absolute power...
Your troll-like tendencies are beginning to show. Go back to DU and chat with your fellow travelers.
At a sports event, some "peacenik" physically harmed an Iraqi vet -- just because he was associated with things "military".
And NBC is having a cow that groups known to be aligned and allied with "criminal activities" are being looked into?
NBC deserves a newer definition upon its acronym...
Thank you for the support.
Amazing. A group based on peaceful resolution is fake and a gang at that. We have Quakers here in central NC. And some of them are just as concerned. Why don't you tell us which citizens of the respective states the federal government deserves to start a list on and we'll get that right over to the 'conservative' administration. I remember a time when conservatives were against any and all government intrusion. Ahhh, but 'we' are in control now (or at war, or post 9/11, feel free to fill in whatever the latest Republican excuse is) so that's all that matters right?
Sweetie cups, get a friend to look at my previous explainations and explain it to you. It's clearly defined by the excerpt I posted from the reg.
BTW, did you hear Hillary '08 slogan? "Mao Is The Time For Another Clinton". Guess they had a lot of Chinese money left.
You start giving government powers, and trying to justify them, because you think you like what the government is doing NOW, you have to pause and think of when the government will ever give up those powers... and the answer is... NEVER... not willingly anyway, and the fight will be hard.
You were being serious when you wrote that one?
YES it is the military's job to protect THE MILITARY. Who do you think "owns" the assets of the US Military (soldiers, marines, tanks, warehouses, cars, offices, etc.)? Guess what? The United States "owns" those things. The military, They, have a duty to protect these things, and the military.
She needs the "Big O" and there's no men at DU who can do the deed.
PS: I think she likes you...
Spying is the effort of one group or person to find the secrets of another. In over 200 years, the Quakers have yet to perform a terrorist act on this country
Research the group meeting in the Quaker facility - they are buried deep - and tell me they don't deserve a little spying.
There is legitimate protest against this war without a doubt. There are those who are against war no matter what. Those that say unless we are directly attacked then we shouldn't go to war. And those that think only war is justified if a liberal starts it. I have no problems with any of those from a legal/constitutional stand point. I do have a problem with those undermine our troops and aid the enemy. There is no reason for that and those that do so should be investigated.
At many of these socialists/liberal meetings -- it's an open door invite to any and all to attend. And so if military go and attend this makes them.. what ? No different than anyone else attending those "open" meetings.
Did they bug the meetings? No. They probably took notes, maybe even brought a tape recorder.
So what.
Once upon a time, the Attorney General didn't have sufficient assets to keep track of the burgeoning left-wing anti-war element in the country. POTUS was PO'd; ordered SecDef to loan AG counterintelligence and CID personnel to work alongside FBI and other Fed LEO in surveilance and occasionally infiltration of quasi-criminal "Peace" movement. This went on big-time until POTUS changed at next election.
The year was 1968. The POTUS was LBJ. SecDef was Clark Clifford. AG was RAMSEY CLARK.
Am I the only guy to remember this sh!t?
My point exactly, the reds have been using the Quakers ever since I can remember.
You are going to have to do better than that.
You and Limbaugh. I think I heard it on his show too.
We are in a WAR. Ergo, your thoughts are useful for peacetime; but not in a time of War.
> You start giving government powers, and trying to justify them, because you think you like what the government is doing NOW, you have to pause and think of when the government will ever give up those powers... and the answer is... NEVER... not willingly anyway, and the fight will be hard.
I don't disagree with you, but... what's the solution NOW, when we have enemys, both foreign and domestic opperating on U.S. soil. Whatever it is, I have to trust in the professionalism of those people in our military and security services to do the right thing.
I'm just saying that we as a country are going to have to decide if we want privacy or absolute safety.
We can't tell the government they're not allowed to monitor anything and then scream bloody murder every time something bad happens because the government wasn't able to stop it.
That goes for war or peace time.
