WASHINGTON, Nov. 19 - She grew up in the rough-and-tumble of a family auto racing business, went through concealed-weapons training, and bears a local nickname seldom applied to shrinking violets: "Mean Jean."
So when Representative Jean Schmidt, an Ohio Republican, created a furor on her 75th day in Congress by lobbing the word "coward" toward a Democratic war hero, those who know her best were anything but surprised.
Just this week, a profile in The Hill newspaper, which covers Congress, labeled her "gloriously uncensored." Back home in her suburban Cincinnati district, the Whistleblower, an online newsletter that tracks local politics, rushed out a special I-told-you-so issue calling the speech "vintage Jean Schmidt."

Rep. Jean Schmidt deserves praise, not condemnation. My only problem with Rep. Schmidt is that she allowed herself to be intimidated by the the verbal attacks of Democrats and the near physical attack by Rep. Harold Ford, who had to be restrained by other representatives. Rep. Schmidt did not call Rep. Murtha a coward, she simply quoted a Marine constituent who asked her to remind Rep. Murtha that cowards cut and run, Marines never do, a fact that the retired Marine, Rep. Murtha, had obviously forgotten.

The long knives are out for her.
Tonight's Saturday Night Live--a show that has become the entertainment division of moveon.org--spent five excruciatingly unfunny minutes attacking Schmidt.

The best way to respond to a NY Times character assassination is to send a check for her re-election campaign. Anyone have an address for that?

Whoa... That show is still running new editions?
I don't think I've seen a fresh SNL in a decade....

Murtha is a senile old coot.
The Democrats have been aiding the enemy since the Civil War.
Screw them and send them straight to hell.

Excellent idea. Some time ago I began, as I am able, to send checks to conservative causes whenever I find a particularly egregious leftist MSM article too frustrating. That helps me feel better! It's how I became a monthly contributor to FR too!

Funny you mention MoveOn.org. It's sad that we would condemn MoveOn.org, the unpatriotic Daily "screw them" Kos, Michael Moore, and DU when they substitute cheap personal attacks for intellectual debate, yet applaud Schmidt when she does the same.
Murtha's proposal was irresponsible, disgusting, and easy to refute. Instead of doing that and making Murtha look like the bad guy, Schmidt's name-calling rant has made him look like the victim and the Republican Congress comes off looking petty and personal.

Whenever I see the Left take aim at one of ours I see a need for us to step up and give support to the person targeted.

Rep. Schmidt did not call Rep. Murtha a coward...But, as the saying goes, "if it sounds like a duck, and looks like a duck..."
And let's not forget the "brave" Rep Harold "Smack my b***h up" Ford, who decided to show her who's the man...

Supposedly she broke one of the silly little "rules" of the House. It was funny how the Democrats had a hissy fit then they went on to make worse comments about the president.
The bottom line is that everyone knows what she said. And, the Democrats got slapped down by being forced to vote "for" something they did not want to.

What was particulary insane is listening to the senile Murtha go on about how the crosses at Arlington don't say Democrat or Republican.
Thats true, but the democrats that died for this country in past wars got drafted. The overwhelming majority that have died fighting the Islamic subhumans are Republicans who vounteered.
Democrats are not supporting the troops by viciously and relentlessy attacking and telling huge lies about the Commander in Chief.
They are giving the enemy aid and comfort and should be run out of town on a rail.

On the Weekend Update, Tina Fey (who does most of the politically charged stuff) showed the clip of her speaking the "Only cowards cut and run" lines and the resulting booing. The alleged punch line was something like "While Murtha is a decorated war veteran, Schmidt is a veteran of a Seventies fashion time-warp." Ha ha.

Obviously, though you are a member of FR And therefore have the ability to know that facts, not Dem propaganda, you choose to not avail yourself of FR's threads. What's the matter...it's just easier to swallow and the regurgitate lies, than find out the facts?
Jean Schmit didn't call that traitor Murtha any names! The soldier, whose letter she read, called Murtha a coward and he is.
