HANNIBAL, N.Y. (AP) — Some boys and girls in an Oswego County school district must sit in separate sections of their school buses following the arrest of two students for engaging in sexual activity on their ride home.

State police said a 14-year-old boy was charged in juvenile court with forcing a 13-year-old girl into a sexual act and a 16-year-old boy was charged with a misdemeanor count of sexual misconduct involving a 14-year-old girl.

Investigator Stephen Cadwell said the Hannibal Central Schools students were all on the same after-hours bus ride Nov. 7.

"These cases are coincidental," Cadwell said. "There was no conspiracy."

Superintendent Michael DiFabio said boys and girls now are riding separately on three after-hours bus runs, which service up to 15 students each from sports or extracurricular activities at the middle and high schools.

"Parents expect a safe environment, and this does not provide a safe environment," DiFabio said. "It's embarrassing for the district to admit things like this happened. I just apologize to the parents for having this happen."

The school and state police began an investigation after the 13-year-old girl told her mother. Both boys were awaiting court appearances.

Hannibal is 29 miles northwest of Syracuse.

Begala can consider this a blue state example. He won't.

I also suspect that the clintoid majority in NY would not approve of "separate" seating arrangements for these Democrats of the future.

School buses are a security and liability nightmare. Drivers are expected to drive and babysit at the same time, and it is not possible. Add to that the administrations' refusal to kick the disruptive kids off the bus.

At the first hint of trouble--make Mommy and Daddy drive Junior to school.

I'm pretty sure all school buses in NY have monitors now, but I could be wrong.

On the bright side, at least the boys weren't committing the sex acts on eachother, like I'd originally thought from the headline.

I drive buses once in a while. There is no way the driver can be responsible for the actions in the back of the bus. It takes too much concentration in front of the bus.

I agree-Homeschool.

I'm afraid this happens fairly often. My daughter has come home telling me of children smoking pot and having oral sex on the back of the bus. My son told me the same at a different school in this state (Principal was busted for Cocaine.) Needless to say, my children no longer ride the bus, much less attend public school.

I believe you are right, this is Clinton's legacy. I had never heard of teenagers having oral sex in public pre-Clinton.

HOMESCHOOL YOUR KIDS!!!

Did you miss the big story of the "home schooled" boy who shot his "home schooled" girlfriends parents and then kidnapped her?

And you think he did this because he was homeschooled? Give me a break.

Boys will be boys...I recall in the 30s getting whacked by the bus driver for talking too loud. We sure missed out on the good times.

Not that I'm defending Klintoon but this started before he came to office. I blame TV shows - the sexual content of the shows. When I was a kid that was restricted for after 10 pm - when most kids were asleep. I blame the music and the video games as well. And of course, parents not disciplining their children, suing schools when THEIR child has done something wrong, etc.

A bunch of kids misbehaving. Never heard of that.
The bus rides in my day were where most kids saw their first nudie picture or puffed a cigarette. Sometimes the girls were worse than the boys. Although there is no excuse for forced sexual act, it seems to me that it takes allot for a boy to force a girl and remove clothing, especially on a school bus with other children. I think the boy would have had a few claw marks on him before he even got to that point.
But I don't have all the info on what happened here, so I can't judge. But I don't think it is a sign of the times.
Getting in trouble and fighting are part of growing up. We shelter too much.

And the crimes committed on this school bus would never happen in the "home schooled" world, right?

Those that preach home schooling as an end all are the ones that really do need a "break". A breaking out from their naiveness.

I agree, homeschooled kids should strive to more more worldly and less naieve....kinda like the kids featured in this story...

Paging Captain Obvious. Homeschooled kids don't ride a bus to school.
