CNN's Carol Lin and the French "African-Americans"
The Paris riots have highlighted more than any other issue in recent years not only the bias, but the ignorance of the "old media." Internet readers have studied the situation in Europe for years. Numerous writers, from Mark Steyn to Ba'at Yeor to Debbie Schlussel, have long predicted the decline of Europe and the jihad that we have seen over the past few weeks.
But the "old media" personalities still have no clue as to what is going on. And their reporting and commentary has taken on an almost comical quality as a result.
Years after "new media" readers began to understand the consequences of French policies toward Islamic immigrants, CNN's anchor Carol Lin referred (on November 6th) to some of the participants in the Paris fiasco as African-American (apparently for lack of a better euphemism). Video available: Real Player or Windows Media
When the MSM seeks to use euphemisms to ignore the real issue, they run the risk of sounding stupid and bringing ridicule upon themselves. It would be far easier to identify correctly the rioters in the first place. It makes one wonder why they don't do things the easy way.
UPDATE 4pm EST Friday, by Rich Noyes: Lins comment came about 10 minutes into CNNs 10pm EST Sunday Night, as reporter Chris Burns was reporting on the rioting in France. Burns reported: The priority right now is to restore order before trying to deal with some of the underlying issues, but even after what [French President Jacque] Chirac said, were seeing more violence. What you could point out, though, is that there is at this point about half as many vehicles torched as the night before, so you might call that progress, Carol.
Hard to say, Lin responded, because its been 11 days since two African-American teenagers were killed, electrocuted during a police chase, which prompted all of this.
The two teenaged boys, who ran into high-voltage equipment and were killed on October 27, weren't American at all. They were actually French citizens of Tunisian origin.
"No words can describe the stupidity of CNN."
There is words ,but, FR would ban me.
Kristopher.
CNN, like the rest of the MSM, is stuck on stupid.
What a stupid @$$.
Geeze, talk about 'stuck on stupid' or 'stupid is as stupid does'.
I have heard Amy Goodwin of Democracy Now making the same stupid mistake. Amy also likes to reference sailors as being in the Army.
Hilarious. Reminds me of the story of a high school senior last year who had immigrated from South Africa to the USA and said that he was African American on his college applications. He was deluged with scholarships until it came out that he was white.
I suppose she's "Asian-American."
"There is words ,but, FR would ban me."
I think I know what words you mean. I feel the same way.
It's much simpler to call anyone who is non-white anywhere in the world "African-Americans". Then you don't have to think. That suites the MSM perfectly. So, that makes Lin African-American, too.
She just reads what scrolls across the teleprompter. Blame the unknown idiot news writers
Methinks the MSM would be called 'racist' if this were happening in (say it with a French accent) New Orleans....
Except for a few hundred thousand votes here and there....we almost had our first African-American First Lady!
Mama T!
But pictures do nicely.
About a week into the riots, a newsreader for WABC radio made the same mistake. I laughed the whole ride home.
I suppose African-Arab is what she meant, but that does not distinguish between, say, a Muslim from Nigeria and one from Algeria.

Lou Dobbs is good otherwise CNN is dumbed down for dumb asses.
You're as bad as Lin is. The rioters were not black. They were overwhelming Muslims who look Arab. Not black. I suppose a few French blacks joined in or watched.
You're as bad as she is. What's your excuse?
