CBS REPORTER TO WHITE HOUSE: ALITO 'SLOPPY SECONDS?' Mon Oct 31 2005 11:26:56 ET

CBSNEWS Chief White House correspondent John Roberts described the President’s selection of Judge Samuel Alito as “sloppy seconds” during today’s press gaggle with White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan.

John Roberts: “So, Scott, you said that -- or the President said, repeatedly, that Harriet Miers was the best person for the job. So does that mean that Alito is sloppy seconds, or what?”

Scott McClellan: “Not at all, John.”

Sloppy seconds” is described in the United Kingdom’s A Dictionary of Slang as:

Noun: “A subsequent indulgence in an activity by a second person involving an exchange of bodily fluids. This may involve the sharing of drink, or more often it applies to a sexual nature. E.g. ‘I’m not having sloppy seconds, I want to shag her first.’”

McClellan should have ejected the man instantly and then revoked his WH press pass.

A whole pack of these jackals would have been booted out of MY briefing room about three years. Let them concoct their "news" without the cover of doing it from the White House.

I understand that CBS NEWS Chief White House correspondent John Roberts described the President’s selection of Judge Samuel Alito as “sloppy seconds” during today’s press conference with White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan. I find that deeply offensive. Look it up. John Roberts should apologize to President Bush, Press Secretary Scott McClellan, his counterparts at the press conference can Amercia. That is a disgusting question to ask and your bruised and battered news organization just keeps digging.

It's not that offensive. Besides, some Republicans, such as RNC spokeswoman Tara Wall called John Edwards "sloppy seconds." Yes it has another meaning, but it's used all the time in politics.

I'm surprised he didn't make reference to a "slump buster".

You're right and you missed the point. Having a little fun at the expense of an idiot. Love to watch them scramble. Got to stir the nest first to get them chasing their tails.

I think that reporter should have been summarily shown the door and relieved of his White House pass. I'd think the same thing if he did it in the Clinton White House, though in that case it would have improved the tone and climate of the joint.

"Sloppy seconds" is not appropriate vernacular weather describing Judge Alito or Sen John Edwards. It was wrong to use this gutter mouth vernacular in both cases. With respect to John Roberts, I wish I could say I'm surprised. Also, one gutter mouthed phrase does not make a career in reporting, but if I were Scott M, I'd have thrown him out of the briefing and told him you can reapply in a year.

I've been howling about McLellan's personality and performance as the administration's face to the world on this forum for a year now. But a lot of people think he's such a cutie-pie.

The real observation that sticks out among others is the fact Scott was even asked this disgraceful question in the first place.

McLellan commands no presence, no respect and no grudging admiration among the low-lifes who assemble for these press conferences and briefings. The reporters know they can get away with anything. These days, they're really pushing the edge, with no fear of discipline or retribution.

Although I'm outraged at this incident, I'm not surprised. They wouldn't pull this with an Ari and other historical White House press chiefs who had good combinations of ease, quick-thinking, humor, knowledge and who could exercise quiet but firm control of the scum presstitutes.

I tried using the "Contact Us" link at their news site. My Mac, which has always been rock-steady, went nutz! Spinning color wheel, etc.. I couldn't even shut it down. I had to unplug it to make it restart. very odd!

Clear now why Roberts didnt get the anchor chair. He's totally without any class. Say what you will about the bias of Rather, Jennings and Brokaw, none of them would lower themselves to that level on camera.

I'd like to see Bill Parcells replace Scott M. If Bill Parcells were presidential spokesman, do you think they would ask him about "sloppy seconds"?
