Am I the only conspiracy theorist left here, regarding the resignation of the NOLA chief? I haven't heard one wild speculation, so here goes:
I guessing he was told by the FBI that his padding the police rolls could result in charges relating to the wrongful deaths of NOLA citizens. I will then speculate that he was told he could ride out that storm on his own, or else he could go into witness protection and rat on the higher ups in government (recall LA politicians are the most investigated and convicted officials in the nation).
The key will be how much we see of him in the coming days, weeks and months. In his resignation statement, he said he was going to go where the Lord leads him. At first, I thought that was a cynical ploy. But the more I thought about it, I can believe that, during Katrina, there were many "come to Jesus" moments for many people. Perhaps the chief is both remorseful and looking to avoid prosecution.
So there you have it. In the name of fair disclosure, I should point out that my very first Freeper reply posting (after many years of lurking) was to speculate, prior to the Iraq war, that Tariq Aziz was ratting out on Saddam, and using the Vatican as a conduit (remember the unusuality of Bush, Blair, and Aziz, all making Vatican pilgrimages before the war? I've seen nothing in the handling of Aziz, since his early "capture", that has dissuaded me of that opinion.
Yeah right.
Well, at least I put it in "vanity" and not "breaking news."
You just may be right!
The pad was thick.
I think you raise a very interesting question. NO and LA are quite dirty and it is very likely that some people will turn states evidence. Has any news source stated that the chief might be under witness protection?
Compass will end up as Chief of Police in another urban seting within two years, albeit one not quite the size of NO, and with a force smaller than 1,700, I mean 1,000 officers.
Yes. We had a secret meeting about it last week.
Not that I've heard. I'm trying to be out in front of the story with rampant speculation.
You owe me a new cup of coffee, LOL!
Well, if that is true, Mayor Nagin's remark about Eddie Compass sending him a christmas card would be a hint that Eddie is going into federal protection.
Let's hear it for "rampant speculation"!!!
I was a little surprised at how quiet it's been since the Tony Snow story broke about the disappearing cops while the police chief resigned.... ON THE SAME DAY!!! Duh?
Well, I've missed the last few conspiracy theorist meetings myself, but I think that "going where the Lord leads" in the case of Chief Compass is going to be real estate in some country that has no extradition treaty with the U.S.
Thanks for the link. Good article.
> I have heard from no other source than on Free Republic anything concerning the padding issue. So at this stage it is pure speculation.
It was first said on Fox New's radio show by Tony Snow. That is pretty reputable, I think.
Corruption...in New Orleans??? PLEASE!!!! You have got to be kidding me. I'll bet in the coming years you will find where most of the money earmarked for building levees went also.
I read the quote on FR that was from Tony's show, but the thing has layed there since then. Does it have legs or not?
