Halted gun sales infuriate customers
The Boston Globe ^ | September 11, 2005 | Sasha Talcott

BATON ROUGE, La. -- As fearful residents rush to stock up on guns, Wal-Mart, one of the region's biggest suppliers, abruptly stopped selling them at 40 stores scattered throughout the Gulf Coast.

-snip-

Wal-Mart's decision to stop gun sales also earned it praise from several customers, who said police would protect them from any trouble.

''Why can't we get along? This is a time of crisis," said Mike White of Kenner, La. He said people who need guns for legitimate reasons, such as hunting, would not be buying now.

If that be the case, then there is no reason for them to be armed. In which case, check this:

Firepower belongs to the people, not the gummint!

Hunting season is suspended as well?

No I was just refering to the fact that the 2cnd Amendment is not about duck hunting.

How did you lose your leg?

This guy's been listening to too much Hillary-speak.

"...several customers, who said police would protect them from any trouble."

This is amazing. The mindset of sheeple even in the face of a cataclysmic breakdown in law and order is truly disturbing to people such as me.

Me either. I've spent quite some time in Louisiana, off and on, over the years and know quite a few folks there and the ones I know would never say that.

LOL I didn't lose my leg. I injured my legs in a cycle accident and one of my knees is fused and I'm all full of metal pins screws and rods.

As far as the 2nd is concerned I think hunting was seen as a given since most people survived by growing their own food and hunting when the constitution was written. There's no constitutional right to watch television or grow a garden but I think we all see them as accepted rights.

The only explanation would be hysterical blindness on the part of the person speaking that phrase.

Yes, they do such a good job during normal times so I'm sure they will do even better now.

Fool."

Ha! Well said.

"Have you called your congressman and senators over what is happening in N.O.? If not you are passively accepting the disarming of fellow Americans. Have you called the NRA-ILA? GOA? etc."

No I haven't - and I appreciate you're calling me to task on this. I'm a long time member of the NRA. I want to promise you as a fellow FReeper that I will do so tomorrow morning. Best Regards...T_J.

Self defense IS a legitimate reason. Ask the police what their job is in an emergency. They will tell you their job is to enforce the law, keep order, prevent looting (ha ha), direct evacuation. Ask them if your protection is in their job description. You will be surprised. Self defense in an emergency is a personal responsibility.

The Founding Fathers realized this. It is historically true. That is why you have the PERSONAL RIGHT to keep and carry arms!!!! No matter how the liberals interpret the Second Amendment, self defense and personal protection is what is all about.

We may have to fight to keep this right that all liberal democrat governments wants to take from the people.

"When Marshal Law was declared, the military, both Federal and state troops, started confiscating weapons from the civilians (I heard no distinction between hand guns for self defense or long guns, or between neighbor hoods)."

Only one problem---"martial law" was not and has not been declared. Any gun confiscations from folks not involved in criminal activity are ILLEGAL according to both state and Federal Constitutions, and I hope some of those gun owners sue the folks doing the confiscating into the poor-house.

Big deal! Walmart doesn't have a monopoly on gun sales.

If they can't figure that out, maybe a gun isn't the best thing for them.
