Good morning. I counted about 200 buses in that one lot. If there are only 50 in each one, that is 10,000 folks heading out of town.

Don't know if anyone has done this yet, but it might be good to run the photo of the buses along with the NOLA evacuation notice.

General Evacuation Guidelines

General evacuation for disasters apply to both natural (hurricane, flood, thunderstorm, tornado) and man-made (chemical and fire). If you are told to EVACUATE you should move to a place designated by public officials.

Follow these steps:

Stay calm.

Take your disaster supply kit.

Remember as you leave your house to do the following:

- Turn off lights, household gas appliances, heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems.

- Leave refrigerator/freezer on.

- Lock house.

Only use the phone in case of an emergency, injury, or illness. If you must use the phone, keep calls brief. Do not listen to rumors. Turn on your radio or television for up-to-date information from public officials during an emergency.

Use only one vehicle for your family. If you have room, assist any neighbors that may need a ride.

Tune to Emergency Alerting System 870 AM or 101.9 FM radio stations for reports about evacuation routes, conditions, etc. Use those travel routes specified. Drive safely. Traffic will be heavy. Law enforcement officials along the route will help with traffic.

If you need a ride, try to go with a neighbor, friend, or relative.

Let others know when you leave and where you are going.

Make arrangements for pets. Animals are not allowed in public shelters. Pet carriers are recommended along with pet supplies.

"Instead, Nagin's tale, and, therefore, New Orleans', is overwhelmingly one of derision, of blame, of cowardice, and of vulgarity."

Well said. I would add professional incompetence and a complete inability to make sound logical decisions under pressure. The story is starting to appear that President Bush was the only smart, decisive person in the chain of decision-makers, and Bush told the governor and mayor to order a mandatory evacuation.

Here's an aerial photo of the same bus depot that I cropped from images at the NOAA Katrina site at http://ngs.woc.noaa.gov/katrina/KATRINA0000.HTM. Note the oil slick coming from the buses or the depot fuel station. The last image is another bus depot that was mentioned earlier in the thread.

THese pictures need to be circulated and recirculated for as long as needed.

Nero fiddled while Rome Burned, Nagin fiddled while N.O. sank.

You had the busses to save thousands of people Mayor nagin. why oh why did you not use them? Me thinks the emporer has no clothes.

ALL of those buses could have [been] prepositioned on the elevated parking [garages] at the Superdome

Actually, a school bus wouldn't be able to be located to the top of a parking garage, with the typical 7' to 8' height restrictions of a multi-story garage.

I'm not sure if the Superdome garages are like this.

If we're talking about simply parking them on the plaza level, that would have been VERY doable.

In any event, the buses could have been used to evacuate BEFORE the hurricaines landfall.

This afternoon FOX is showing live footage of school buses being used for evacuation. Wonder what organization tracked down these buses and from where they came?

"You had the busses to save thousands of people Mayor nagin. why oh why did you not use them?"

I think the governor and the mayor didn't want to bother the people who voted for them with a mandatory evacuation, so they gambled that there wouldn't be serious flooding in NO. They have now lost that high-stakes bet in a big way and Nagin appears to be trying to shift the blame elsewhere. He's trying to blame Bush and the Federal government, but that dawg just don't hunt.

FReepers need to stay on top of this, and NOT let it be forgotten.

With Nagin and Blanco trying to put the blame on Bush, the lefties are going to go nuts with their b.s. talking points, and the media will be only too happy to accommodate them to make their lies stick.

Oh, and Jesse Jackson, there was a black man in charge of this. He left town and left "your people" to die.

The buses lined up and ruined after the disaster is reminiscent of the airplanes lined up at Wheeler Field (to prevent sabotage), which made ideal targets for the Japanese on the attack at Pearl Harbor.

A quick count 268 buses

That is 18,000 passengers!

Not to mention I saw rail yards and train tracks on Google earth.

Oh but just the thought of putting poor blacks into rail cars Im sure would send liberals into seizure! Better to let them die than have those images.

thanks, defender....and hopefully, it gets out to the common folk, not just those who take the extra steps needed to find the truth and get beyond the media spin., that....The story is starting to appear that President Bush was the only smart, decisive person in the chain of decision-makers, and Bush told the governor and mayor to order a mandatory evacuation.
