President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

They tried to turn away some people in Houston already from the storm when they opened the Astrodome for just the Superdome refugees but let some in.
There are also homeless in Houston showing up and asking for relief (with nothing to do with the storm).
This was reported on the Laura Ingraham show via Dan Patrick in Houston this morning.

Congressman Alexander(R) - "I'm afraid that it has turned into something more than anyone could anticipate, we're going to need the military."

Was there a freeper who didn't anticipate and warn about this? And if we saw the need for the military in there before the hurricane ever struck, so did most Americans.

72 hours past, and the military presence is STILL so woefully low that rescue efforts are stopped. The excuse that it takes 72 hours to set up is no longer a credible way to stave off criticism of the fed portion of the response.

It's not an issue of what she can do. It's about needlessly providing cannon fodder for the politically perverted.

What is the pathology that causes them to shoot at rescuers?

This reminds me of Iraq in so many ways."

Actually, I was thinking of Saigon, as the last chopper lifted off.

Louisiana's laws descend from Napoleonic laws. It is much different than the rest of the country. Lawyers who pass the bar in Louisiana usually cannot ever pass any other state bar because it is so unique.

Exactly - I suppose Condi should be bbiting her lip and shedding TV tears. If she had business or even vacation in NY it doesn't mean she isn't doing her SOS job

Well SEC of State is really a foreign affairs job not national BUT the average person doesn't have any idea of who or what she is so it will be a PR disaster by the time the MSM gets done

its obvious now what is going on, the police and the state controlled guard could be shooting these people by the truckload right now, and they aren't. Why? we know why, politics.

Maybe. And maybe you and I just don't really have enough facts to know whether your "shooting them by the truckload" suggestion has any merit whatsoever.

....news footage of Apaches and Cobra helicopters ordered by Bush to fly over NO shooting people.

The true radicals and anarchists must be salivating right now...this is their ideal scenario for revolution on a national scale. As soon as it's opportune this whole disaster will be cast as the grand racial conspiracy to last for the next 50 years.
