President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Uh.. There's about nothing that SecState can *do*. Department of State is *foreign* relations, remember?

Eyewitness: Sec of State Condi Rice laughs it up at 'Spamalot' while Gulf Coast lays in tatters.

Anything to take a dig.

I lost it when I saw that! Betcha won't hear that story reported anywhere but on FNC!

Pray that the lady the reporter interviewed finds her fiance. She said he stayed behind in NO so he could use his boat to go rescue people. May God keep him safe and re-unite him soon with his loved ones. This whole thing has nothing to do with race--it has to do with heart and spirit!

Several legal authorities have asserted that the Louisiana Constitution does not allow "martial law" to be declared.

You have got to be kidding me??

How the heck are they going to get control of that place?

"Idon't know how far this would be from Shep's location."

Those same folks said all they had to do was walk to the SD and there was no moat of water around it and blah blah blah and on and on they went how these folks were just stupid for not going. Then I posted a pic of the SD (on this very thread) surrounded by water and I never heard from them again. :)

I'll lay odds that a fair number of them will remain once all the real refugees leave. They'll try to create their own personal fiefdoms, until they kill each other or become food for the gators...

I'm fine with that.

Exactly - I suppose Condi should be bbiting her lip and shedding TV tears. If she had business or even vacation in NY it doesn't mean she isn't doing her SOS job.

"I mean seriously, what do they tell themselves, how do they rationalize that behavior to each other?"

"Birds of a feather flock together". They don't have to rationalize. They just automatically fall in line with each other!

It's depravity. They are a depraved people.

It could be worse. We just don't know what we have yet to see!

why is everything up to the federal government? why are all the local police, the state police and the national guard under control of the governor - simply given a pass as to standing up to their responsibilities? its obvious now what is going on, the police and the state controlled guard could be shooting these people by the truckload right now, and they aren't. Why? we know why, politics.

"What? That she laughed at a funny play? She is Secretary of State, not the FEMA director."

Just another effort to make Bush look bad. Last night, my TV was still showing Seinfeld and Friends and Frazier and Everybody Loves Raymond, so I guess some people are still allowed to laugh, as long as they aren't in the Bush administration.

What is the pathology that causes them to shoot at rescuers?

Maybe: If I can't have it no body will.
Mad because the door were closed
or claiming territory.

Best first step is to escort the media out of NO.

That is an excellent idea, even though I love keeping up with information

(if true, we only have Drudge's eyewitness)...I'm no political adviser but it seems to me in poor taste for someone who grew up in AL (a federal disaster area), and her time could be better spent going to our "friends" in OPEC and asking for some additional help on oil, or some humanitarian aid from the other countries we've helped ourselves.

Not trying to start any flame wars. :(

If they keep up the talk about Secretary Rice, we're gonna accuse them of being racist. That'll shut them up.
