The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Perhaps the best thing that could happen would be for a little light rain so people can fill things for at least somewhat cleaner drinking water.

If you need relief, there is always the comedy channel or music videos. My humblest apologies if the death of hundreds of people has put a crimp in your usual entertainment. I'm sure we'll all try harder next hurricane to avoid inconveniencing you.

Okay -- flame me if you will -- but, why not move in some old Navy ships or cruise ships and use as floating evatuation centers??? they have kitchens, medical facilities, rooms, etc...

Actually that's a great idea! Is there a place for the ships to dock, or a means to get people out to the ships?

The CG coordinator of SAR missions has a dozen copters for the entire coast. He told NPR he flew out to Pascagoula and the devastation was complete there, 90% vanished and 10% wrecked along the beach.

Yikes! Any word on deaths, damage to the Ingalls Shipyard, etc.?

Would it be foolish to offer an 18' (I think, might be 16') Hobie Cat?

We've had it stored for the last five years..will probably not use it again. It could carry a family I think, but is more dangerous and hard to manuver than a regular sailboat.

Good Condition. Free. Cant move it until this week-end, anyone knows anyone that could use it freepmail me.

I just talked to onyx; she is fine in Vicksburg; no power, no nothing; can't make cell calls out but gets them once in a while.

Lots of trees stripped and down, but no major damage. at least at her house; she said Hattiesburg is devastated, according to the MS radio stations.

She's ridden her first hurricane and doesn't EVER want to do it again.

Thanks for the update on onyx. The other thread was pulled so I brought your comment over so you know that which I am referring to. She told me back in March she was looking forward to experiencing her first hurricane! LMAO!!

Just glad she is OK though! Again, thanks Howlin. :)

Bush asked that some bases that were closing to be turned into refineries, of course it went no where.

It's not false - Drudge has it up now with link to WWLTV.com:

3:25 P.M. - With conditions in the hurricane-ravaged city of New Orleans rapidly deteriorating, Gov. Kathleen Blanco said Tuesday that people now huddled in the Superdome and other rescue centers need to be evacuated.

Then why was that thread pulled? (wondering out loud)

No idea. I put that same reply in that thread.

I'd rather look for individual threads with news than have to wade through the chaff looking for wheat here.

I'm with you. I keep seeing helicopters pickling up people one at a time with dangerous wires and debris all around. Small to mid-size power boats would surely do a more safe and efficient job. Haven't seen one yet.
