Covering a presser now, but they've spent all night running unedited video . . .

"I saw Brian Williams on NBC nightly news say that the first signs of unrest were occuring in the superdome, he did not go into detail but did mention that it was hot and there was no fresh air."

I'd want out. The tv keeps repeating one clip of looting and portraying it as widespread. People want to protect their homes.

I think it is; but that's where she was last night and I thought I heard her say that's where she is now.

I don't think I would have gone in there. Maybe a bit claustrophobic...?

OMG I listened to her, and I just finished listening to her(photographer- assistant, producer whatever) I can't even describe what I'm feeling.

May God have mercy on the victims of this hurricane, and the rescuers.

I have no words......

What story?

Laz got criticized and I defended him. Then I got this email that sort of shocked me. I thought I was too old to be a pervert.

Isn't it absolutely amazing how accurate the NHC's 48-72 hour forecast tracks have been? Yeah, there was a bit of a surprise early on off of FL, but all things considered they've been very close on most of these storms the last couple of years.

they could run pump tug boats - like a fire fighting tug boat, in reverse. those things can move alot of water. hell, we put a man on the moon 35 years ago, we can figure out a way to pump water, can't we. what's FEMA doing with their billions, hiring consultants and doing "studies".

Yes, the water will come back down the Mississippi. However, the river is very deep and wide around the mouth. The river can absorb the flow.

The tide would be coming in now, with high tide about 6 hours or so away. It's also likely that the levees are leaking through areas on the sides or the foundations that were weakened by the excess hydraulic gradient (not to mention the dynamic loading) caused by the storm surge and the wave action, what the dam breach experts call piping failures. Chances are the sewers are already as backed up as they're going to get.

As far as pumping goes, it'll takes LOTS of pumps to clear that much water, lots of time to set them up. Hopefully they can get enough pumping capacity on line quickly enough to save themselves from slowly drowning.

We are so dry in this part of the country. Rain will probably soak in and there will not be a lot of runoff.

Broken gas lines and they are dropping flares? Isn't that a bit risky?
