How frustrating it must be to beg and plead for people to get out, and yet you only have so much power. And you would think with the legacy of Camille in that area, that people would have known better.

We can hope it wont go up, but it will. This is BIloxi/gulfport. NO has already reported bodies floating in the water (mayor said that and Jeanne Maserve CNN said she saw some.)

Plus there will definately be some from Pass Christian/Bay St Louis/Slidell

I fear this one will be in the hundreds.

Lots of us went to really good schools and had really good history classes/teachers/profs, and didn't learn about Louisiana parishes. My elementary education in Newport (Cocke County), Tennessee. Moonshine and cock fighting capital of America.

Secondary education in the metropolis of Kingsport. One place or the other, I learned of the Louisiana difference.

This is why Haley Barbour has been so distressed all day.

Yah. I've had the same feeling all night and all day. We still don't have people into the worst places yet, but it isn't hard to guess what's there when they get there.

I heard Haley say that on H&C.

Bless them all; and bless Haley for he's going to have to be doing these next few days.

I said that more than once; I felt like he was expecting something really bad.

Watching FOX's coverage...AWFUL. They have the same video over and over. Keep going to the French Quarter, I guess you can't get enough of drinkers.??

Shep reported from there, "Can you hear the explosion sound? It's shutters." Great!!

So I watched Scarborough Country @ 10:00 PM, video I've never seen. Unreal, I had no idea.

I stayed on FOX all day, bad decision.
I know about the French Quarter all right.

And on Fox & Friends this morning, UGH! Kilmeade interviewing the NG Major @ the Superdome, terrible! He kept trying to get the Major to tell us how bad the conditions inside were, the Major refused to be negative. Kilmeade made a comment after the interview like, "Well he's upbeat isn't he."

Just curious if anyone else found the coverage elsewhere more informative?

I'll still watch Bill and H&C...but that is it. Really awful coverage. And I'm not even going to mention the Geraldo Manic Episode last night.

Those who lived through Camille are now old farts who are to be disregarded. A life-long friend of mine was at Keesler then. He said the wind was 190+ for over three hours...deafening. They picked bodies out of trees and rubble for days.

It is not possible they have made it into all dwellings this quickly following the storm. I don't have a death toll wish, it takes time to canvass the areas. On the flip side, if most of the residents evacuated, then this could be a reasonably accurate number.

On CNN, Jeanne Meserve is in tears, talking about what she has seen today.

My take yesterday was that there would be a riot-or-something-like-it in that place. Too many people under too much pressure.

I forget who said it way, way upthread... but I think it was right on point: It's the places we're *not* hearing from that are the problem. There are some very large areas that we really have yet to learn anything about at all. I wouldn't expect good news from those places.
