Oh...no.
You aren't stupid by any means.
A bit inexperienced, perhaps. ;o)
To be honest, I'd rather see these storms head north.
The longer time that they spend over land, the more steam they lose.
As far as the evacuation route is concerned, it was a mess!
But, it is better now.
Earlier, it appeared to me that using two interstates heading north (out of Katrina's way) made more sense than heading east or west (still in Katrina's way).

I feel everything labeled "breaking" should be moved to the Freeper trashcan after an hour.
But that's just me.

Well a lot of people don't live here 24/7... They need a little more time for things to be posted to catch what's going on...

I simply cannot agree with the forecast. The steering currents do not appear adequate to turn this mammoth storm that far North in the remaining run over the water.
I would bet that it comes ashore well to the West On New Orleans.
Just an educated opinion, having spent a good deal of time in that area -- and looking at alot of weather charts in my flying days along the Gulf Coast.

Even now there is not nearly enough time to evacuate New Orleans. If it is heading toward New Orleans everyone should head to any high rise and evacuate vertically.

"evacuate vertically"
At this point, those are key words.
Sadly...
As I was streaming WWL, they said that there are no shelters,
as they are in the inundation area.
I don't think that many understand that.

I already posted this info on the live thread, but I think it's important to repeat it here, too.
If you are evacuating via I-49, do NOT look for lodging in either Alexandria/Pineville or Shreveport/Bossier City unless you already have a confirmed hotel reservation. Everything's sold out for the next several days and there are reports of price gouging at Alexandria hotels.
Regular updates about evacuees heading for Central Louisiana are being posted on the Alexandria Town Talk site at this link:
http://www.thetowntalk.com/apps/pbcs.dll/frontpage
Prayers to everyone in Katrina's path, and pleasant dreams to everyone posting on the hurricane threads!

It could be but I suspect it won't be as bad it as could get. If it's really bad (and what Cat 4 isn't?) at least part of the blame has to rest on Gov. Blanco's glacia responsiveness to the threat of the hurricane.
Let's hope for no loss of life, only property.

And it says something since were still talking about the destruction of Hurricane Andrew 13 years later.

NO is done for if it takes a direct hit.
My brother left Slidell for Baton Rouge this afternoon - as soon as it's daylight outside, look for massive traffic jams as people get out of the city.
