Bush announces Supreme Court nominee
Dear XXXXXXXX,
In a devastating move, George W. Bush has nominated John Roberts to replace Justice O'Connor's swing vote on the U.S. Supreme Court. By nominating John Roberts, George Bush has issued a slap in the face to every American who values personal privacy and a woman's right to choose.
We need your help NOW. Please click here to make an emergency contribution to help us oppose his nomination.
With Bush in the White House and Congress in the grip of anti-choice leadership -- a woman's right to choose cannot afford to have John Roberts on the Supreme Court. The worst news, John Roberts has actually argued before the Supreme Court that Roe v. Wade should be overruled. As a person who values privacy and personal freedom -- we need you with us at this moment to ensure a woman's right to choose is protected. Click here.
I know NARAL Pro-Choice America has asked you for your financial support several times in the last few weeks, and the entire staff at NARAL Pro-Choice America thanks you for your generous support of our work. But the simple truth is anti-choice hardliners are pouring millions of dollars into this fight to pressure Senators to confirm a nominee hostile to Roe. That's why I must ask you once again to support our strategic Choose Justice plan with a gift today.
In the next few weeks, our work could determine whether the Supreme Court continues to recognize Roe v. Wade as a constitutional right or whether it swings to the right as payback to Bush's anti-choice base. We have never, in the thirty-two years since Roe v. Wade first ensured a woman's right to choose, faced the possibility of such immediate and monumental change on the Supreme Court. We must educate and mobilize pro-choice Americans to vigorously oppose John Roberts' nomination to the Supreme Court.
Right now, the radical right is pouring millions of dollars into an effort to force anti-choice Supreme Court nominees through the confirmation process in the Senate. But we will not let them. We may not have the White House in our pocket like the radical right does. But we are America's pro-choice majority. If all pro-choice Americans stand together, I have no doubt that we can succeed in demanding the U.S. Senate protect this freedom from a stacked court. Please stand with us right now.
We will need your help every step of the way. But we must seize this opportunity to let our Senators know that we will not simply stand by and accept a right-wing takeover of the Supreme Court. Too much is at stake -- the lives of countless ordinary Americans will be affected by the outcome.
Please click here to take action -- and to take your place in history.
Thank you -- I know that together we will prevail.
Sincerely,
Nancy Keenan, President
NARAL Pro-Choice America
I am in the '68 hippies' age group - but don't lump us all together. I helped elect CONSERVATIVE Buckley to the Senate - and I believe that he's the only C to have served there.
Not all of us screwed up the country: some of us were right with Goldwater and Reagan in the vanguard of changing this country for you!
(you said )....He is an excellent choice. The President never ceases to amaze me.
hey. When Sandra Day O. announced retiring, and Pres. Bush came out to accept or make a talk on it..... I saw a noticable glint in his eye that I've seen somewhere before.....
Ken Starr said positive things? Excellent.
Popcorn and diet A&W here...:^)
Wow. That's high praise of Roberts from the man who wrote those world-historical words: "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"
This was probably already mentioned, but why did Sen. Schumer say he voted against Roberts? He was confirmed through unanimous consent. Was he referring to a committee vote.
Am I to believe that Schumer actually voted against Roberts before voting for him?
Title of a thread over in the DUmpster:
"Fighting Roberts is futile. We need to keep pressure on Plamegate."

Hatch saying the Dems not playing fair - (Understatement) but he says americans are sick of it as is he!!
I like Hatch!!
Still waiting Bubba....
Senator Hatch just said the word "CRAP" on live TV, Fox News, to describe democrat tactics he is fed up over.
Hatch just said if there was any of that "crap" no one was going to put up with it, refering to filibuster and trashing nominees. That they and the American people are fed up with it. WooHoo. LOL
Not that you asked...but I think Hillary will vote "yes" on this one and keep her powder dry for a Thomas/Scalia appointment to Chief Justice.
...but whadda I know?
It's my hometown and was wondering if my little brother might have had him as a classmate (same age)
Was it Canisius? St. Joseph's? Bishop Timon?
Bet it wasn't a public school.
Torie wrote "I am going to take time off if I can to watch the hearings. It should be fascinating, and I want to see Roberts in action."
I'll save you the time.
