Some of you folks are the most negative people I know -- the President could nominate the most strict Constitutionalist and some of you are going to be wringing your hands. Why let Pres Bush's record of judicial nominations get in the way of "what could happen?"

All this social conservatives will leave is crap -- always the threats around here when there are no facts to back up a supposition. Disgusting!

GIVE ME ONE DAMN INSTANCE in where Bush has backed down on Judicial appointments?

If you don't have the facts, don't alledge otherwise. The Senate Reps are another matter.

Well it would be a good idea to end any O'Connor bashing. Bottom line, she has now just done Bush and conservatives a favor by stepping down.

If social conservatives want to destroy our best hope of turning this country around by demanding that all things go their way, it is lost anyway.

How would replacing one moderate with another turn this country around?

Now is the time for GWB to start taking out the baseball bat...Appoint Bolton, re-nominate Bork, ask for Kofi's resignation, send special ops into Syria and plug the flow, seal our borders immediately and that would be a good first day....

What's GWB going to do the rest of the weekend?

My criticism is the constant threat of the social conservatives to pack their bags and abandon this president if they don't get their way.

What exactly do you mean by "their way"? How does "their way" differ from yours, in terms of the type of justice you want to see on the court? Please don't speak in insinuating generalities. If you have something to say, say it.

The Democrat majority in the Senate will never allow Bush to appoint an originalist to the court

Fine. Maybe they wont. But MAKE THEM FILIBUSTER Janice Brown, after Voting her to the 2nd Circuit as part of a deal in which they all but agreed she was not Extreme.

If we can't get a conservative on there , we should not nominate anyone.

The problem is, it's not "we" who will be making the nomination and fighting the fight. It's Bush and his "new tone" and the spineless wimps in the Senate. "We" would probably be all right, but there needs to be a Constitutional amendment allowing some delegation of Freepers to nominate and then fight for approval of Supreme Court Justices.

But while the Regress is in recess, Mr. Bush should appoint someone whom the 'Rats simply cannot stand.

Mark Levin, possibly. Bork is probably too old, but might relish a little bit of payback. Laura Ingraham would be a good choice, were she healthy.

Then, Mr. Bush could say to Dur binLaden, ''Hey, the faster you vote on Luttig (or Garza, whomever), the faster Levin is off the Court.''

Yes, I'm the one that pinged you that thread, right? Or was I already there? Anyway, it would be awful for him to do.

Think he'll recess appoint Bolton over this holiday break?

LOL, the du'ers are pooping pants right now. Apparently Bush is going to kill women with illegal abortions and become King and make them all Christians?

I wish they felt so passionately about the Bill of Rights.

Rehnquist will take this opportunity to step down as well. This would be a good move for the conservatives.

Why? Because a fight over 2 justices will be no uglier than a fight over just 1. It will force the issue in a way that will make it even more difficult for the Dem's to filibuster.

Look for Rehnquist's announcement to follow shortly after O'Connor's.

this is historic moment. I hope (probably in vain), that conservatives will support the President's pick, rather than one-issue bashing him to death,

One issue. This is THE ISSUE.
