I was a little older than you in 1985. I remember the TV movie The Day After.
Was that movie about what would result in case of a nuclear disaster?
I also recall Reagan's Star Wars speech. Ah, the '80's: the music, the movies, the cars, the attitude! Dang, now I really wish that I had a time machine so that I could go back and thoroughly enjoy that decade...(time to buy an IROC-Z and grow a mullet)
I remember being overseas, the Philippines. Dad was in Navy. Getting a taste of the local culture...but anything 80s is cool for me. --Fee

"Only" l4??? LOL! I wouldn't know what to do with that many people in this house. Is everyone bringing something to eat to help you out?
It is fairly typical to have hot weather, but it usually cools off quite a bit at night. This is not typical and as much as I love to have the doors open for a breeze, it's not happenin' tonight!

I remember Geraldine rummaging through her purse to find her speech and glasses during the VP debates. I also recall some of the bumper stickers that came out at that time poking fun at Mondale and Ferraro.

1985 was a very perplexing, transitional year.I gave up trying to be a dairy farmer, getting rid of the cows much to my fathers disapproval.
I went to work at a local newspaper filling in for down routes, running "shorts" and answering the telephone.I hated it but it taught me to be a responsible employee which I continue to be.
All things come around though and now in addition to my regular job I once again farm my land with my cousin, growing hay which is sold for horses and cattle through the New England area.
In a lot of ways it was the worst year I can remember, having to face and accept failure while now realising that it led me to where I am now, which is reasonably successful.
Sometimes having to swallow your pride is the best thing that you can do,even though it is still distasteful to think about it 20 years later.

Yeah, The Day After really focused on a Kansas town and its residents in the wake of a Soviet first strike, but it also touched on the broader results of such a strike. It was freaky stuff back then, but the production value seems campy by today's standards.
How many folks here remember the TV mini-series "V"?

Wow, the Soviet Union dissolved 20 years ago? Time flies. (Somehow, I think the joke might have been on us). I played hookey to be home for Ronald Reagan's inauguration. I think that was the one that had to be held indoors, due to extreme cold. In 1985, I was mixing work, business travel, and the raising of two small children. I went to dance aerobics at the Y, and remember warming up to "Sea of Love", doing endless crunches to "Part-Time Lover," and leg exercises to "Smooth Operator." We did some nasty boot camp exercises to an instrumental song that sounded like jungle music to me. I never knew the artist or title.

Hi, Lauren! Just wonderful pictures--it's like I am right there watching in person--except the noise from that rocket would be really loud!
You having a cool evening out there in the desert? What's in the plans for tomorrow? I'm waiting for pictures from the Suguaro Park! Was it awesome?
God bless our brave troops--so proud of Sgt. Pashley for her bravery under fire! They are all heroes to me!

I graduated high school in 1985.
I was not old enough to vote for Ronald Reagan, BUT! our senior class trip participated in CLOSEUP and special arrangements were made for us to attend the very same week of the Inauguration. Unfortunately, we ended up sitting in the hotel room watching it on TV anyway, because that CLOSEUP trip became known as the "1985 CLOSEUP Inauguration FREEZE-OUT" - I still have the button that says it! It was still FUN FUN FUN!
My favorite band in 1985 was Men At Work.
I can't remember too much right now, but I do remember how much fun I had and how I was looking forward to college, and all the great music of the time.
