Two groups claim Texas blast, FBI sees no foul play

DUBAI, March 24 (Reuters) - Two Islamist groups have said they caused Wednesday's explosion at a Texas oil refinery which killed 15 people but the U.S. FBI said there was no evidence of "any criminal or terrorist activity". An unknown group, calling itself al Qaeda Organisation for Holy War in the United States of America, said it would issue a detailed statement and video of the attack later. The statement was posted on the Internet on Thursday.

Another group, Army of the Levant, also posted an Internet statement on Thursday claiming responsibility for the blast at the BP (BP.L: Quote, Profile, Research) plant in Texas City, Texas.

It was not immediately possible to verify the authenticity of the statements.

FBI spokesman Al Tribble in Houston, Texas, said on Thursday there was no evidence of foul play at the BP refinery, the third largest in the United States.

"There's been no evidence of any criminal or terrorist activity," he told Reuters. The FBI sent agents to the plant on Wednesday, but Tribble said to his knowledge, none were there on Thursday.

BP said on Thursday it could not pinpoint the cause of the explosion, but ruled out a terrorist attack on the complex. It was the third fatal accident at the plant in the last year.

Al Quaeda tried to take credit for the Northeast Blackout of 2003 as well.

""An unknown group, calling itself al Qaeda Organisation for Holy War in the United States of America, said it would issue a detailed statement and video of the attack later.""

I wonder if they mean a video of the actual explosion!

Until there's something more substantive than "statement on the internet" I'm leaning toward some group wanting to take credit for an awful accident...we'll see.

Interesting insurance claim if true. But would that make it vandalism, or an act of war?

The terrorist said they were going to kill our economy. Looks like they are doing it one way or the other.

I don't care what the FEDS say, this is very suspicious to me. But I have been wrong before.

This is waht happens when no new refineries have been built in over twenty years and all exisiting refineries are being run into the ground just to keep-up with demand.

zygoat said, "Would we be told if there was?"

Not if they came across the southern border...

And you expect an agency that has been known to lie, to tell the truth because?

Arrest them. They are obviously admitting to a terrorist act!!!!!!

They are in our country and supporting terrorist act. I don't care if it is a false confession or not. We are in a state of war and the enemy has outed themselves for our capture. Don't tell me about rights. These are the folks that hide behind the American Justice system.

For the record, it is not illegal to be a member of AlQueda any more than be a member of KKK. There is a law however passed in the 90s then again in 2000s that say anyone associated with the support of terrorism against the US is illegal.

Send them to gitmo until the end of this war!!!
