Excellent find. That quote says a lot...about SeeBS.
BTW, Mapes, it's 'chromosome.' There's no 'n' in chromosome.

I'll be here for a little while and then we're headed out to but if I see anything truly newsworthy, I will ping you.

Did Hackworth SEE the memos he was authenticating, for example, or were they read to him?Hackworth Document Authentication Conversation
MARY MAPES: Hey Hack, how's it going? Look, we're about to run a 60 Minutes bombshell that'll prove the Chimp was AWOL from the Texas Air National Guard. We've already got the DNC ad that will repeat the charge in the can, and we're all set for launch this Wednesday.
HACKWORTH: Sounds good, Mary. What do you need me for?
MAPES: Well, the smoking gun for all this is some memos I got from our pal Bill Burkett, and you know, sometimes Bill gets a little carried away ...
HACKWORTH: (Chuckles) Yeah, I sure do like Bill, but he's definitely a few fries short of a Happy Meal.
MAPES: Anyway, since we both know how Bill can get sometimes, I thought maybe you might want to take a look at these memos for yourself and, you know, point out any possible problems with terminology and stuff that might come back to bite us later on.
HACKWORTH: Mary, what's your opinion? Will these memos be enough to get that smirking little frat boy kicked out?
MAPES: Oh yeah. By the time we're done here, that little f***** will be on his way back to Crawford to play cowboy again, at least until we frog-march him to the Hague in handcuffs.
HACKWORTH: The documents sound like they're authentic to me, Mary. Run with it.
To: Petronski
My bad. The report spelled it correctly.
Still, it's one of the funniest things I've read in a long time!

Well, if Mapes makes that mistake, it is a terrible error.
If it was you're doing, hey it's a common mistake, no biggie. ;O)

CBS News President Andrew Heyward kept his job. The panel said Heyward had explicitly urged caution before the report aired
As CBS News President, Mr. Heyward should have been the first neck in the noose. Why does he get a pass? What ever to the "buck stops here"? He urged caution? He should have demanded it.

Asked whether Democrats had been involved in handing over the documents, Mapes said "Texas Republicans of a different chromosone" were her source. That's actually in the report? Sounds like McCain.

Yes, there was some Kerry/DNC ads referencing this that ran on Thursday or Friday right after the story on Wednesday. I remember a lot of talk that CBS must have contacted Kerry in advance, since they were about to get ads up about it in 24 hrs.
To: cyncooper
I wonder how they nuanced the firings (snicker).

WHY? Because many, many people would go to jail AND it would literally be the END of CBS NEWS. People DO need to go to jail for not only attempting to smear the President with fraudulent information to throw an election, but smearing and misreporting the war. Their actions have helped to kill more American soldiers and innocents, as evidenced by their extremely biased coverage of Abu-Ghraib, and how the terrorists picked up on that to behead many innocents. These people DESERVE jail time. That NEWS organization is nothing but an arm of Al-Queda.

Some at DU are agreeing that CBS didn't do their homework. But that the story was still true even though all the facts of the story are contested. Some are still contending the documents are real and have never been proven false. Some even think Bush/Rove orchestrated the whole thing and manipulated Rather. What a joke over there. They (like CBS) loose more credibility every day.

HACKWORTH is up to his dirty neck in this!
Hackworth declared the documents GENUINE! Good grief! The documents are "genuine" and Bush
was "AWOL"! What a dang moron!
