The conventional wisdom of the political punditry has been proven wrong again. A huge national voter turnout was thought to favor the Democrat candidate, but Pres. Bush's national popular vote count from the Nov. 2, 2004 general election has now exceeded 62 million votes. As of 12/10/04, Pres. Bush has received 62,019,003 votes. The states of NY and PA have certified their official results in the past two days which pushed Pres. Bush's vote count over the 62 million mark. CA will certify its results tomorrow, but almost all CA votes are already included in the Bush total (by obtaining vote counts from CA county websites). Only MN, ME and a few other states have yet to certify their official results.
Why do people keep saying this... Doesn't the fact that the population of the United States is much higher mean anything? In the year 2075 when the US population is 600 million people, will it be a big deal that George W. Bush VI got 200 million votes?

I may have been incorrect when I stated that the 2004 voter turnout exceeded 60% of the VAP. After checking the US Census Bureau information for the Nov. 2002 election, I was surprised to see that the estimate of the total VAP was 210,000,000. Using this estimate and a projected 122.5 million voters in 2004, the VAP % was approximately 58.5%.

The only meaningful statistic is the PERCENTAGE of the current population.
Tonight on Cavuto, good old Bob Beckel made a statement which sounded something like "3-400,000 vote difference" shouldn't be enough to cause the dems to be in such a state. I kinda blinked .. what did he say? But .. Neil didn't challenge him on the statement.

The reason it's a big deal to break Pres. Reagan's record is because in 1984, Pres. Reagan received nearly 60% of the popular vote. The fact that Pres. Bush, who received less than 51% of the popular vote, has broken Reagan's record by nearly 8 million votes is truly astounding. It's a further indication of the massive voter turnout in the 2004 election.
The question of VAP turnout depends on the total of the Voting Age Population (excluding ineligible voters). Using the GMU estimate of 203.9 million, it is possible that the 2004 voter turnout will exceed 60%. If the national popular vote total reaches 122.5 million, then the 60% threshhold will have been reached. P.S.: The US Census Bureau is showing a higher # for VAP.
"The real election will begin and end Monday when the Electoral College convenes across the country to cast its vote."

No dear. President Bush said that he respected those who served and would say nothing about Kerrys military service.
The Swift Boat Vets were not refuted.
I have no doubt The President did agree but like a gentleman did not want to make it the focus of his campaign. He instead chose to run a positive and upbeat campaign on what he planed to do in his second term.

The RNC did a fantastic job this time out, IMO. They still have a ways to go in immeatiatly countering liberal spin on the talking head shows but now, at least, the have a solid GOTV strategy.
Now the work really begins.
