The conventional wisdom of the political punditry has been proven wrong again. A huge national voter turnout was thought to favor the Democrat candidate, but Pres. Bush's national popular vote count from the Nov. 2, 2004 general election has now exceeded 62 million votes. As of 12/10/04, Pres. Bush has received 62,019,003 votes. The states of NY and PA have certified their official results in the past two days which pushed Pres. Bush's vote count over the 62 million mark. CA will certify its results tomorrow, but almost all CA votes are already included in the Bush total (by obtaining vote counts from CA county websites). Only MN, ME and a few other states have yet to certify their official results.

Pres. Bush's lead over Kerry is now 3,011,000 votes. The lower Bush margin is largely due to CA where Kerry has gained a net of 212,000 votes in the counting of more than 2.5 million absentee votes. Kerry also picked up more than 100,000 net votes in NY State. Below is the current Bush/Kerry popular vote total by state. Including third parties, the national popular vote count has easily exceeded 122 million.

Pres. Bush Sen. Kerry

Shattering Ronaldus Magnus all-time record of votes received in 1984 which was 54 million. The real election will begin and end Monday when the Electoral College convenes across the country to cast its vote.

What is the percentage of the electorate that voted? Did it break 60%?

Thanks!

The national popular vote total of 121 million shown in Comment #1 includes only Pres. Bush and Sen. Kerry. Independent and third party candidates have received more than one million votes which pushes the national total over 122 million votes.

I'm still hoping that late absentee ballots will swing the District of Columbia to President Bush.

Unfortunately, sadly...almost blasphemously IMHO, Kerry also shattered Ronald Reagan's blow-out vpopular vote total.

Thank God we were able to energize the base and a lot of heretofore uninvolved voters to win the day. After thanking God for His influence, we can thank the Swifties, our own activism through places like FR, talk radio, and so many others for that.

What was the 2000 census for citizen population of voting age?

If total population is around 280 million - to include non citizens and minors.....120 million voters is very high.

It's the electoral vote that counts.

True... but this election will be seen as the Democrats high-water mark. They had an unprecented turnout, they stoked up the anti-Bush fervor, spent millions and had a friendly mainstream media in their corner - and they still LOST.

"What is the percentage of the electorate that voted? Did it break 60%?"

Yes, the voter turnout easily exceeded 60% of the voting age population. The 2004 election exceeded all estimates. It was the biggest voter turnout since at least 1968 and possibly 1960. The final total could be close to 123 million. I'm not sure of the exact % of VAP, but it's well over 60%. Pres. Bush defied all the experts. He ran a magnificent campaign. I've never seen any presidential candidate campaign as well on the stump. Despite the obvious bias of the MSM, Pres. Bush's message got through, and 62 million Americans responded YES!

Agreed...the Constitutional Electoral Vote will show 286 to 252. It's just a shame that so many people could and would vote for somone who was so demonstrably un-American and a marxist

Where do you go to find out the % of voter turnout? Is there a site that lists the current # of ligible voters, so we can do the math?

If'n they don't hurry up and certify a number President Bush may fall under 50%. He's at 50.8% now.

Don't forget the media hid the details of Kerry's life from voters. Most of his voters were anti-Bush and the rest thought they were voting for a war hero.

Yes...that is all true. We were blessed to have the much larger turnout and to once and for all put down this myth that high turnout equals liberal/leftist/marxist wins.

What it showed was that when the tens of millions who normally practise apathy were awakened, more of them went for correct principles...and that is very heartening because there are still more who are uninvolved.

But 59 million voting for such unabashed anti-Americansm is still a shame and a tragedy.
