On our way back home from a family drive on 8/29/04 my wife and I noticed a peculiar mushroom cloud just east of our home in Wellington, UT. We ran into the house and brought our both of our digital cameras and started snapping pictures. Within 2 hours there were three different explosions resulting in mushroom clouds.
We emailed a local news station; they looked into the pictures but to no avail. There were truck drivers parked at the gas station just down from our home, the drivers did not dare drive the road for fear of whatever was happening out there. Pretty scary afternoon, especially during this time of heightened alert in our nation.

Check to see whether Mikey Moore or Clinton were in town. They may have gotten together to hold a fart lighting party. Liberals wrestling with issues and fixated in a troubled adolescence are known to do that on occasion.

From the home of MOAB, I'd say they were testing some. That cloud looks just like the ones we had here in the FL panhandle after the Eglin AFB MOAB testing....maybe a bigger version?......mo MOAB!....

The paint on the roof of Astro Vans always deteriorates in an atomic blast. Missing any paint?
I have an Astro and know the answer. ; )

Just part of the North Korean "hydro-electric" program.

Please move on...nothing happening here...

My mom and sis visted Arizona a couple or few years ago and took a similar photo of a smoke cloud from a huge forest fire about 20+ miles away.

The cloud looks too "clean" to be smoke from a fire. Plus, the "ring" in the middle seems to indicate an implosion of some type.
Just my Friday morning theory...glad I got that out of my system.

MOAB. Just lifts them up a little higher so G-D can see what he should let fall back down.
Kerry said there are no go zones. There soon will be. Evacuate the law abiding populous. The MOAB do the rest.

I don't think the cloud is tall enough to be a nuke. If you look at most photographs, nuke clouds are thinner and higher before they have the fallout stem develop.
Probably a forest fire. Though I wouldn't rule out MOAB tests.

Michael Moore used the trampoline in the forground. The mushroom cloud is the impact zone.
Seriously though, it looks like a typical explosion from a mining operation. They blow away entire sides of mountains/hills/canyon walls, etc....

Did you hear (or more likely feel) anything afterwards? specifically shock-wave from detonation? If not, most likley fire as indicated in several previous posts.

Could it have been a forest fire?
Possibly but I don't see anything in that picture that is combustible with the exception of the shed. Sand don't burn to good....

OH Brother! Look chum. Thats a cloud from a fire. If it was what you are thinking, you'd a heard about it over the news as well as felt the shock waves being as flat as it looks.

Nothing to see here. move along. (That's an explosion, as sure as I'm typing on this keyboard. I've seen those before. Looks like it was rather large, too).
