Drudge: Secret Service on Trail of Presidential Assassins

A worried Matt Drudge reported on his radio show tonight that the Secret Service is on the trail of several people intent on assassinating President Bush.

Drudge said the news story is not his, but that "those in the know" know what he's talking about.

He said more will be reported in the coming days.

Drudge pleaded with his fellow Americans to let the political process play out and to not descend to killing presidential candidates.

Who are you planning to rebel against?

One of the greatest fallacies is that history repeats itself. That may be true in some instances, but in war, it is almost never the case.

The French fell quickly to the Germans in WWII because they were prepared to fight the last war - slow moving trench warfare. The Germans ran right around (and over) their defenses.

Time and time again countries prepare defenses based on history. Time and time again some upstart rewrites the rule book and takes them by surprise.

There is no reason to think that the US Civil War II will be anything like the first Civil War. I could easily envision a "war" of escalating "terrorist" attacks. Whoever is in charge of the Federal Government would initially respond by restricting civil liberties - right of assembly, bear arms, etc. - but would eventually have to resort to martial law.

If the Dems control the Federal Government, the resistance will be more organized and will likely attempt to control geographical areas. From the resistance you could expect road blocks by "militia", airports and ports being take over, and "militias" being posted at utilities to keep the power and water flowing. Some sort of secession followed by a declaration of independence will follow.

If the Republicans control the Federal Government, the resistance will be loosely aligned groups, each with its own agenda and level of violence. Expect bombings and assignations. Killing will probably be more random and aimed at turning the populace away from the government.

Who are we planning to rebel against? I am not planning on rebelling against anyone. The South didn't "plan" on secession, it evolved over time as events dictated it. They seceded when they felt they had no other choice. If the Dems win in November, and if there is evidence that they "stole" the election, I can see how many people would begin to see that they had no other choice but to separate from the Federal Government. Conversely, I can see the left absolutely loosing it if there is a close election and Bush wins. There will likely be loony tunes seeking to "nullify" the results violently.

Absolutely. I really don't think you will find anyone here who dismiss the SS as bullet catchers. I think most Americans have nothing but respect and awe of these brave men and women who shoulder the responsibility of protecting the most powerful man in the world today.

I'd agree about the basic premise that the two sides are becoming more and more polarized and that a breaking point may come. But I still don't understand who you're going to rebel against. In other words, if Bush is assassinated, which I pray God may not happen, he represents the government, so how do you rebel against the government? A civil war is a rebellion against the government and an attempt to usurp the existing government. If you are merely planning to fight liberals, how does that happen? How do you tell which of your neighbors are liberal so that you may shoot them? To save my life I couldn't tell you which of my neighbors are liberal. And once they are identified, do you just shoot them all? They're civilians. Even during America's Civil War civilians did not kill their neighbors. The whole scenario is difficult to envision.

To be honest I think our energies are more likely to have to be directed against outside attack, from terrorist Islamists, than from our next-door neighbors. Homeland Security is not going to be successful at fending off attacks forever. There are millions of Muslims out there who are possible terrorist attackers, and as Dr. Rice remarked, we have to be successful at finding and arresting them 100% of the time; they only need to be successful in their efforts once, so more attacks certainly will come.

We need to pray daily for the protection of George W. Bush. There are so many people consumed by hatred for this good man and so many deranged individuals who might be influenced by that hatred.

I will continue to pray for our President, his family, administration, our congress and senate and our nation.

And I will pray that our agents out there always hunting down the hateful will be blessed with incredible awareness and skill.

And each of us has an obligation to remain alert and active in defense of our nation, we have been attacked at home and there is no excuse for not staying vigilent, always.

Just take a look at the DU board and you have all the insinuations and outright declarations you need. Some of those bastards should be watched by people assigned the responsibility to protect the President.

It appears they have, in the words of another poster, become unhinged by the apparent realization their opinions are not in the majority. So one could presume they are on a path to do what true extremists do, attempt to take by force what cannot be achieved through the democratic process.
