Nope, IMHO, this has Clintoons fingerprints on it. HRC has the most to gain from Kerry’s crash & burn. It’s been discussed here for the pass 6 months; there is no way the Clintoons are going to allow Kerry 4, possibly 8 years in the WH, plus control of the Dim party.

This is the Clintoon’s October surprise a month early. (And they are probably sitting on more “October surprises” if necessary.)

Jim I think you may be right. The source for the memos would have to be someone considered "reliable" in Rather's eyes to the degree he would not back off.

This could be why Rather went against some at CBS and their better judgment to do the story, too. Was it that he knew the source intimately because it was his daughter or her friend Barnes?

Obviously Dan Rather has usurped control of CBS.

When the story broke, I was kind of thinking that maybe, some of the folks at See-BS who are nominally Danny-boy's superiors are involved. When someone is "too big" to be fired, sometimes other methods are used to get rid of them.

This CBS smear is going to finish off any chance Kerry's campaign had to get started, regardless of whether Rush is correct here. Kerry will again be seen as having hired people who are unethical, without giving any thought to what could happen. Great quality in a president -- OF A BOWLING LEAGUE. :') He'll either hang someone out to dry, take the fall, etc, or he'll try to deny it for the next seven weeks. Heh.

I find it interesting this story broke in time for the new swiftboat ad to start airing.

The Pentagon came up with some additional Bush documents last week as was widely reported. CBS may have released the forged documents at this time hoping that the forged documents would blend in with the newly released documents in the public´s mind, and thus receive less scrutiny.

Someone else said it, so I'm not taking credit here, but I just think it's golden to remember that these documents were being saved by the Kerry campaign until the last week of the campaign! The ONLY reason they were dumped on CBS now is because Kerry's tanking. If these had been saved until October 30, there would not have been time to discover and get the forgery out there before the election.

I believe you are right. However, I'm not so sure they won't try something desperate the last week of the campaign anyway. They did it with the DUI allegation in 2000. They will surely do it again. I don't now what they might be holding back, but Sasso, Carville, and Begala could easily come up with a serial nun murder or puppy-skinning allegation by then.
