In the end.....tragedy T.V. will try and have the obvious angles covered.

While at first glance it's morbid...but it is realistic. And I could/can see where they wouldn't be very thorough..if they weren't at the very least somewhat prepared for that possible scenario.

This is SOP with newspapers. Large ones and the wire services have obits prewritten in their files for famous people. However, broadcast outlets as a rule don't do this unless the person has been ill for a while or is very old because of the cost. (A few paragraphs on a piece of paper is much cheaper than professionally produced video footage).

All major news outlets, broadcast and print, have obits of famous people 'ready' just in case. They periodically update those files as necessary.

This is standard operating procedure (SOP); no surprise, nor anything out of the ordinary.

My 75 year-old dad had heart BP surgery about 3 years ago. He's very bright, loves history and has a very sharp memory. For the first year after the surgery, he seemed a little slower, memory not as sharp. But now he seems back to his old self. I think the body might be so busy healing physically, it drains energy from other functions? Just a guess. Surely there must be some medical term for this.

IIRC, when Bob Hope died, Phyllis Diller's obit was run on CNN. She laughed about it--in a 'live' interview on another news channel.
