September 6, 2004 -- Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani's speech at the Republican National Convention swayed more voters to re-elect President Bush than the speeches given by Sen. John McCain and Calif. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a new poll shows. Giuliani's 40-minute speech Monday night convinced 24 percent of those polled to vote for the GOP ticket, according to a recent Newsweek poll.That's compared to 20 percent who said they were more likely to vote for Bush after hearing Schwarzenegger's speech Tuesday night. Just 20 percent said McCain's speech persuaded them to vote Republican in the Nov. 2 election.
Giuliani is said to be considering a presidential run in 2008, but some say his pro-choice, pro-gay rights record wouldn't make a good fit for a GOP ticket.

Anybody know what would happen if Bush/Cheney win ... and Cheney were to "step down" due to heart problems. Can Bush choose a VP? How does that work? It would be nice if Giuliani was a VP incumbent.
Strange phrasing. Why not "just 20 percent" after hearing Schwarzenegger's speech?
While I do believe Rudy's speach was productive on that front, Miller and Schwarzenegger both gave incredible speaches. I can't imagine Rudy make more converts than those two.
Laura Ingraham said she had a number of women say to her, that they loved Miller's references to Bush policies and their impact on their children's safety.
I think Zel hit a home run. He also put Chrissie on notice. Gotta love that.
It would be nice if rudy realized he wasn't fit to be elected to national office.

Bush would choose the VP, like Nixon picked Ford and Ford picked Rockefeller.
IIRC he would have to be confirmed by the Senate.
I doubt this would happen unless Cheney had some serious heart problems, because it wouldn't look all that great to the GOP faithful for the lameduck White House to try and annoint its successor.
Who do you propose in 2008? Social moderates predominate. And they sure were a major hit at the convention.

Rudy's speech wasn't as formal as the others (he wasn't on primetime. It was funny, Mark Shields on Capitol Gang said "Rudy never said after 9/11 'Thank God George Bush is President'" LOL... that was the money line.

I maintain that, if we are to keep her OUT of office, we must strictly observe the "11th Commandment". If Rudy is the strongest one to take her on in '08, so be it. He'd move to the right and, unlike the she-devil, would not have an 'abortion litmus test' for federal judges.
but a lot can happen in 4 years...just saying that Rudy would be TOUGH on terrorists, and if that is still the main game in town in '08, I'd expect y'all to shutup, salute smartly, and stand in line...our internal squabbles seem petty if the very existance of the nation is at risk...

The Newsweek poll said 21% were more likely to vote GOP after hearing Zell's speech. The question was also asked about Laura Bush (25%) and Dick Cheney (19%). There seems to be a typo because the numbers were 22% for Arnold and 20% for McCain (not 20% for both).
There's a typo because the Newsweek poll had 22% for Arnold, not 20%. That would explain the curious wording.

I think he'd do better running against the Hildebeast or Upchuck Schumer for a Senate seat in NY!
