Poll Shows Kerry Hurt By Attacks (LA TIMES POLL Bush 49% Kerry 46%)
Political Wire ^ | August 25, 2004

Posted on 08/25/2004 7:14:55 PM PDT by RWR8189

Political Wire got an advance look at the new Los Angeles Times poll showing President Bush "moving slightly" ahead of Sen. John Kerry "for the first time this year." Bush had the support of 49% of registered voters, compared to 46% for Kerry.

The newspaper's analysis indicates Kerry "has been nicked by attacks on his service in Vietnam."

The "small shift" from last month's poll "is within the poll's margin of error. But it fits with other findings in the Times Poll showing the electorate edging toward Bush over the past month on a broad range of measures, from support for his handling of Iraq to confidence in his leadership and honesty."

Independent voters split evenly, but Bush's "tentative new advantage" seems to be "his greater success at onsolidating his base. While just 3% of voters who call themselves Republicans say they will vote for Kerry, Bush is drawing 15% just over one-seventh of all Democrats, and fully one-fifth 20% of Democrats who consider themselves moderate or conservative, the poll found."

Wow, only 100?

Lots of Americans in OK get it. They love their Country and understand intuitively that John Kerry's POTUS ambitions become unviable back in 1971.

..See you in 08, Sen. Clinton..

Precisely; and if what's on the table now isn't enough to sink Kerry, she and Bill will set more up.

The final test of leadership is to to arrange for succession. Bush has failed the 'illegal immigration' issue; maybe he will fail this one. He has to set set Condi up as his heir apparent; Hillary can beat anyone else.

Um, I don't think we are supposed to post whole articles from the LA Times?

Hello,

OK, back to earth here. You make an excellent point. The LA Times would lie to God to cover this up if it were true. Except...what if the Hillary Comes to the Rescue of the Party idea is true. Do you think they would throw Kerry off the proverbial Swift Boat?

Glad to be here, MOgirl

Just caught the latest turn on Drudge: A senior House Democrat, Michigan Rep. John Dingell, sent a letter asking Attorney General John Ashcroft to investigate the possible "illegal coordination" between the two. (The Bush campaign and the Swift Vets)

I can't believe the good fortune that Kerry himself continues to give this story legs. Gotta be his ego that is directing this behavior. That or just sheer panic that his one and only campaign theme is being torpedoed on a daily basis.

All I gotta say to JF'n K is "Don't stop fighting these guys", you're really winning this battle about your supposed integrity.

I would bet that Hillary is hiding banana peels for Kerry in her fat folds.

Yep, that is why we need the internals to the poll. The typical LA Times-style methodology is to over-represent the Republicans in the polling sample just BEFORE the convention, even if it puts the Republican candidate marginally ahead (within the poll margin of error) and then pull the whip-saw. The next poll released (after the 'bounce' measuring polling) will be to then over-represent the Dems and Independents to show that the Republican candidate just had his poll ratings drop like a stone.

That is why the political affiliation splits are so important, it allows the public to see if the 'whip-saw' tactic is being used...

Why does the media insist on calling this "attacks"? This is a group of vets who knew him who are giving information to the public. When they smear Bush the media NEVER calls it attacks. I am so sick of this!

Nothing can change Kerry's '7l testimony. When that vet says "Kerry gave up what we took torure to avoid saying", it's very powerful.

Yeah, and 100 might have been on the high side from the video clip they showed. Heck, about 20 of those were part of our pitiful Dem. governor's entourage. I do hope OK voters get it because Carson, the Dem who's running against Dr. Coburn, is running as a Reagan Republican. All the little weasel is missing is a Bush bumpersticker.

When history is written about this election, I think we will see things differenly. Bush bottomed out in mid-June from what I can tell. He stabilized and started a slight upward trend until mid-Aug. Kerry didn't get much of a bump from Edwards or the DNC. That was a VERY telling sign that the media and Kerry tried to explain away. Now the SBV thing seems to have gained traction. Polls always lag events, especially the state ones. All of us here, read the "real news" every day and stay up to day. For many Americans, they are getting the real news 2nd or 3rd hand. From coworkers and family. So for may, it may take 3-3 days for the news to get to them. Then another few days to impact their thinking. Then it may be another week before the next poll catches this trend. We saw this a little after the DNC. Right after Kerry didn't get a bump. Then 7-10 days later, you saw several polls that showed him moving up 2-4 points.

And there is still so much more for Bush to go after Kerry about. So far, they have barely scratched the surface of his years in congress. Of course the post-VN antiwar stuff is a possibility, but I think Bush will lay off this directly. The RNC hasn't happend yet, which WILL show a bump for Bush. Then their is the debates. Unless Bush makes a majore stupid blunder, he should win fairly easily. And I suspect the odds of Kerry making a debate blunder or doing bad, much higher. I know the folks at DU think Kerry/Edwards are going to crush Bush/Cheney in the debates. But that is probably NOT going to happen. And I am being objective here. Bush is no great talker, but he has a vision, and has integrity. Most people know that even if they don't agree with him politically.

I have been posting for about 6-7 weeks now, that I think Bush will win fairly easy in the end. I suspect a margin of 3-4% nationally and 100+ EVs.

What will be sad it to see how Kerry and the MSM explain away his loss on Nov 3rd. They will blame it on Bush and the SBV smear tactices. But a win is a win. We will know by mid-sept pretty confidently how this is going to end up. I still say Bush wins, and my confidence is growing each day.

The Dems always have to lie about who they are. If they'are honest--they lose BIG.

I saw posted on another thread the partisan breakdown. It was 39% Dem, 32% Repub, and 29% Indy. I don't know if that's accurate.

I don't buy this poll either....remember, the LA Times still has Gray Davis 12 points ahead of Arnold. It is being put out there to either lead to complacency, or ramp up even more 527 giving by the clueless LA Leftards.
