Book about Kerry sure to launch campaign salvos

.....Repya, a veteran of both the Vietnam and Gulf wars, launched the Minnesota Veterans for Bush effort at a State Capitol campus news conference Friday morning.

"We are firing a shot over the bow of the SS Kerry and telling him Minnesota is Bush country," said Repya, a leader of the Bush-Cheney campaign in Minnesota.

Scott O'Grady, who became a celebrity in 1995 after his F-16 fighter jet was shot down over Bosnia, criticized Kerry's anti-war activities and Senate votes on military matters, going so far as to accuse Kerry of "treason" for meeting with representatives of North Vietnam when the two countries were still officially at war. Kerry said in 1971 that he had talked with both the South Vietnam and North Vietnam delegations at the Paris peace talks, which he attended as a private citizen.

"I don't want a commander in chief who's going to turn his back on this country's men and women in uniform," O'Grady said......

.....But at least one of the book's allegations has tied the campaign in linguistic knots.

"Unfit for Command" accuses Kerry of inventing stories of being sent, illegally, across the Vietnamese border into Cambodia at a time when President Richard Nixon said U.S. forces were not in that nation.

Jennifer Porter Gore, a spokeswoman for Kerry's Minnesota campaign, said, "We know John Kerry served on a swift boat that patrolled a river that was the border between Vietnam and Cambodia, so it's a bit of a stretch to say he wasn't in Cambodia."

Kerry spokeswoman Tara McGuinness earlier told the St. Louis Post Dispatch that Kerry had later amended his speech to say that on the Christmas Eve in question he had been near Cambodia but not in Cambodia. ...

I've donated money to the swiftvets, but I'd prefer not to have Scott O'Grady on my side. I can forgive him for being a poor pilot (according to every squadron mate I've met), but when the USAF Life Support school asked him to speak about his experiences so they could use it to teach others (mainly on what not to do), he wanted $30K - according to one of the school instructors.

Oh well, at least he's smart enough to know Kerry sucks.

Anyway, "Jennifer", one might suggest to her that it's not just a stretch, but a bald-faced lie for Kerry to say he was even within 50 MILES of Cambodia. I think it was Gardner who said, you couldn't sail up the river. There were obstacles that allowed only shallow draft sampans to pass, not PCF boats.

I flew many patrols of Operation Southern Watch on the border of Iraq and Iran. I was within 10nm of Iran more times than I could count in a jet that cruised at 8nm/minute - and sometimes had to make a fairly hard turn to avoid crossing the border...but I was NEVER in Iran, and it would be a mighty stretch of the truth to claim I was.

International borders are important. I've flown quite close to East Germany and North Korea as well - always with the understanding that if I screwed up and crossed the border, I'd be lucky if the enemy got to me before my boss did!

Damn, the lies are coming so fast that it is hard to cover one lie with another lie, and then another one pops up.

The 'rats ought to invest in a pop-up blocker for John Fonda Kerry's mouth. Some of these 'rats are having to lie more often then they are used to, and it doesn't give them enough time to make up a real good one.

Jennifer probably hasn't looked at a map of Vietnam/Cambodia and thinks Vietnam is on one side of the river and Cambodia is on the other side.

Kerry had clinched the Democratic nomination, and he knew that Hoffmann was organizing Swiftees to bring out the truth about him, his exaggerated military record, and his antiwar lies that had slandered his fellow veterans. Kerry made the admiral an offer: If you will back off and drop your efforts, I will ensure that my biography, Tour of Duty, which I know is unfair to you, will be changed to make it accurate in a revised edition. The offer from the Democratic presidential candidate was an attempt to flatter Hoffmann, a warrior whose coin is not power or wealth, but honnor--an honor deeply impugned by Kerry's book. Hoffman, after all, is a wounded survivor of the amphibious assault at Wonson, Korea, where his minesweeper still lies below the frigid waters of Wonson Harbor. Kerry knew that winning Hoffmann over to his side would thwart the Swiftees' efforts to discredit him. Hoffmann told Kerry that he and the vast majority of his shipmates could never forgive him for his defamation of our Navy and other U.S. Armed Forces by his slanderous and undocumented accusations of unspeakable atrocities in Vietnam before the U.S. COngress in 1971, his leadership in the VVAW, and his association with the traitorous Jane Fonda and others of her ilk. Surprisingly, Kerry responded by simply saying that he "was expressing his conviction."

If Admiral Hoffmann were truly a butcher whose conduct "sickens" John Kerry to this day, an impression one could easily gain from reading Tour of Duty, then why did Kerry offer to change inaccuracies he knew were in Tour of Duty in exchange for Admiral Hoffmann and the Swiftees ceasing their activities? In emails on May 3, 2003, and on May 7, 2004,trying to dissuade Swiftees from joining Admiral Hoffmann, Wade Sanders referred to the group as "bitter drunks," something the sailors involved deeply resented. Moreover, Sanders referred to Joe Ponder, a seriously disabled Swiftee who cried when talking about Kerry's charges, as "a whining crybaby."*** - pages 68-69

I saw something on TV tonight, it was a documentary about movies made in the 1970s. Part of it was a little montage re-hashing the last days of the war, the apex of the hippie days of Woodstock, anti-war, etc. Well done really (the series is called a decade of influence or someting like that on Indepedant Film Channel), it brought back the feeling of those days very sharply.

I said "This is Kerry, this was his glory days, and he's never gotten out of them" God help this nation if we elect this man president.
