Do you have any pets that have made an impact on you personally? Kerry: I have always had pets in my life and there are a few that I remember very fondly. When I was serving on a swiftboat in Vietnam, my crewmates and I had a dog we called VC. We all took care of him, and he stayed with us and loved riding on the swiftboat deck. I think he provided all of us with a link to home and a few moments of peace and tranquility during a dangerous time. One day as our swiftboat was heading up a river, a mine exploded hard under our boat. After picking ourselves up, we discovered VC was MIA. Several minutes of frantic search followed after which we thought we'd lost him. We were relieved when another boat called asking if we were missing a dog. It turns out VC was catapulted from the deck of our boat and landed confused, but unhurt, on the deck of another boat in our patrol.

No mine explosion under the boat. "VC" was, in reality , a Khmer Rouge hamster operative smuggled aboard upon secret orders from Nixon. This was to be a feint into Cambodia to retrieve another member of the 13 boat..Carville the snake. Apackoliesnow redux opens soon in a hootch near you.

I was thinking the dog actually fell off when Kerry fled the scene and poor soggy ol' VC was fished out of the water by the other boats who were waiting for Kerry to muster up the nerve to return.
But then they didn't get a bronze star for heroism so...
To: Hilltop
Well maybe the VC was shooting at Kerry because he kept stealing their dinner?

No, see, the dog swam way down to the bottom of the water to avoid getting hit by any boats, er and to avoid gunfire. When the boat came back around, the dog climbed onto the boat and the crew thought the dog had flown through the air. By this time the boat was far from Kerry's boat. Got it? ;-)

Kerry felt so bad those first frantic minutes, he branded his brain with the picture of a dog! He seared....SEARED it right into the gray matter!
He must have been devistated.
I'm gonna cry.

He named his dog after the Viet Cong! VC! Kerry's a bigot!

Hmmmm. The little dog would have been killed if it were catapulted from the deck of one boat, to another boat. Also, if Kerry's boat was hit that hard by a mine, it would have sunk and of course, he would have gotten another medal.

Investigative types might research what he named his beloved pets. Let's start with Licorice and work down to words that begin with a D.

Why didn't Kerry get another medal for this? The dog got the medal, after telling his K9 superior about the rice wound on his back paw.

How about; A blast that knocked the dog off the ship would have knocked the sailors off to? Being closer to the deck a dog would be harder to knock off a ship then a person... There are several things that make the story a laugher but the boat that just added the new canine crew member would have just heard a loud explosion and one of their own is in distress after just being mined hard. What action would the adjacent boat take immediately every time in such a situation?
