WASHINGTON Part of John Kerry's (search) strategy in his White House bid is to play up his military service in Vietnam, but a group of veterans is challenging the Democratic presidential nominee's story.
~
In an Oct. 14, 1979, letter to the editor of the Boston Herald, Kerry wrote: "I remember spending Christmas Eve of 1968 five miles across the Cambodian borde being shot at by our South Vietnamese allies who were drunk and celebrating Christmas. The absurdity of almost being killed by our own allies in a country in which President Nixon claimed there were no American troops was very real."

There's a lot worse on drudge right now. Hatemonger headline, freerepublic mentioned.
Now, we just need to get them to report on his youthful days at age 12 of sneaking into East Berlin and riding his bike around aaaaaahahahahahahahahahaha
That's interesting. I explicitly heard Carl Cameron describe it as a "letter to the editor" and that's what made me hunt up the article as I'd never heard of Kerry making a written 1979 commentary on his supposed Cambodian adventure.
Is it possible Kerry submitted a letter to the editor along with a movie review? I don't like details like that being misreported and I've noted Fox has made errors like that in the past (it goes without saying that the other media do that kind of lazy mixing up of phrasing all the time).
Thanks for the update on what you found.
I already saw the thread on the Kerry camp trashing our fellow freeper. In my opinion, it only paints them as the nasty ones.
Carl Cameron was just asked by Brit if the Kerry camp has reconciled Kerry statements that he was in Cambodia with evidence that he was not. Cameron says they have not. They are sticking with the "near" not "in" Cambodia. Of course, that is non-sensical. The whole point of him harking to being "In" Cambodia was to point the finger to one Richard M. Nixon, and decry how Nixon was lying to the American people that the U.S. was not in Cambodia, while Little Lord Fauntleroy Kerry was IN that country.
I don't know of any small arms that are capable of shooting a round five miles. A tank round doesn't travel 5 miles. Only heavy artillery will travel that far.
So if Kerry was in Cambodia, it wasn't the ARVN shooting at him. But Kerry is such a military expert that I must be mistaken. It seems that only Kerry and his supporters are allowed to comment on things like that. The rest of us just don't know anything (according to McCain and the media).
Kerry was in-country for 4 MONTHS, so spent only ONE Christmas over there.
HE COULD NOT HAVE MIXED IT UP WITH ANOTHER CHRISTMAS.
The memory that was "seared - seared into his memory" was a total fabrication.
He lied about where he was on Christmas 1968.
He lied about saying Nixon as President lied about where he and other soldiers were on Christmas 1968, since Nixon wasn't even the President on Christmas 1968 (inaugurated in January 1969).
He lied about being shot at by drunk South Vietnamese celebrating Christmas in Cambodia on Christmas 1968 - they are mostly Buddhist and don't celebrate Christmas.
He lied about saying he didn't say that he was in Cambodia on Christmas 1968.
Now the 'Rats are lying that the Swiftees, who happened to be his commanding officers and in photos with him, didn't know him or serve with him. Laughable.
The lies are so convoluted and twisted, Kerry has spawned a brand new pretzel named in his honor:
The Kerry - soft, twisted and half-baked.
Oh, and its spelled Scrutinised! :)
LOL
My, aren't you the precious one.
John Kerry first getting delusions of granduer.
He's the doofus on the left.
Make that "was". They ar eno longer among the living, Discussionally speaking.
Now the truth can be told: Theresa was the CIA spook Kerry ferried to Cambodia for Christmas.
(just joking...maybe...)
"Drat, drat and double drat. You've figured out that Kerry was really a secret agent!"
But for which side?
"I do not believe the quote above is from a letter to the editor. Rather, it is from a October 14, 1979 Boston Herald movie review of "Apocalypse Now' written by John Kerry. I just today got a copy of it which I have passed on to Swift Vets. The actual verbatim words are: "On more than one occasion, I like Martin Sheen in "Apocalypse Now," took my patrol boat into Cambodia. In fact I remember spending Christmas Eve of 1968 five miles across the Cambodian border being shot at by our South Vietnamese allies who were drunk and celebrating Christmas. The absurdity of almost being killed by our own allies in a country in which President Nixon claimed there were no American troops was very real."
Is there any way that you can scan this and post it as thread on Free Republic. Then we will have documentation on the FR server and can store it on our hard disks.
This is even better than a letter to the editor.
A freeper has a great graphic art showing John John's Swift Boat sailing into one to the scenes of "Apocalypse Now".
This is great and thanks. Please ping me if you can scan this letter and post it here.
He's WHICH doofus on the Left? They're ALL doofusses on the Left. Please be more specific, thank you.
