"I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat"
KHOBAR, Saudi Arabia - Tens of American, European and other hostages were released Sunday and a gunman believed to be the lead Islamic militant holding them was arrested, a Saudi security official said, adding that two other gunmen were "in the process of being arrested."

Suspected Smugglers Fire 11 Shots at BP Agent South of Sonoita By Patti Lewis Posted: Monday, June 7, 2004 4:58 PM PDT
Violence is escalating along the international border.
Smugglers opened fire on United States Border Patrol agents with an assault weapon and handgun June 2 as the agents attempted to apprehend the driver of a stolen truck.
A Border Patrol agent was following a grey 2004 Ford pickup truck northbound on Highway 83 in Sonoita shortly before 7 a.m. when he discovered the vehicle had a felony alert on it from the Bisbee Police Department.
Apparently, the truck had previously been involved in a felony fleeing incident there, said Border Patrol spokesman Andy Adame. Before the agent could conduct a stop, the truck's driver turned around in the area of milepost 21 and started driving south toward the international border. When he neared the border, he ran across another truck parked just north of the international boundary.
The agent radioed for backup, and continued toward the vehicles. As he approached the parked truck, smugglers who were waiting inside the vehicle opened fire on him. They shot at the agent 11 times with two types of firearms. He moved his vehicle away to a safer spot, and was rammed by another truck that fled into Mexico a short time later.
Several more agents and a Border Patrol helicopter responded. They encountered two other trucks that were also proceeding north on Highway 83. Those trucks, upon seeing the agents, turned around and drove toward the border, as well, Adame said.......
Agents found 325 pounds of marijuana, valued at $260,000, in both trucks. The drugs were turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. The trucks were taken to the Bisbee Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
No agents were injured, and no suspects were arrested. The FBI continues to investigate, and to determine the smuggling organization behind the shooting. Adame said the incident is the first of its kind here, where smugglers were lying in wait for an agent, and ready to shoot him. "This is an escalation in violence with smugglers along the border. We are thankful that our agent didn't get hurt."
Arabic posting claiming violent confrontations going on now between US forces (Marines) and armed militants in Fallujah.
The report says that the militants ordered the shopkeepers to close before the clashes began.
Apparantly 6 Turkish citizens have been kidnapped as well.
No confirmation - just a report from one of the jihadi forums.
It doesn't sound like SOP to me unless the protesters are actually allowed on the Island, in which case I would expect LEO charged with protecting world leaders to prepare for the worst. But from what I understand, the protesters won't be allowed anywhere near the Island.
Makes me want to move back to the South.
I hear you. That's where I'm hoping to go in about a year after my youngest finishes up his senior year. It's way too stressful living in the prime target area.
My family all know I want no funeral. In fact, I think we all feel exactly the same as you Granny.
You and MY wife are just exactly alike in this! I have seen her leap from a still rolling car to get behind some DUCK and "shooo" it out of traffic! Sheeeesh.
Good info ExSoldier. However, the info we are discussing relates to a ground burst. What about an airburst from 20, 30, 50 stories up. Or even higher?
And we should take their word for it because they bat 1000 - right?
I'm thinking if anything was planned for 6/11 against our govt or economic interests, the jihadis are plenty mad right now as the Federal Govt and Wall Street are closed.
I tell you, it does my heart some good to see pictures like this one (though it makes me worry, too, that there is even a thought they could pull this off):

G8 Security Forces Waiting For Something To Break
POSTED: 11:02 PM EDT June 7, 2004
SAVANNAH, Ga. -- So many cops, so little to do.
The days leading up to the G8 summit on Sea Island have been so uneventful that the thousands of police officers and military men and women helping with security on adjoining St. Simons Island and up the coast in Savannah can only wait for something to happen.
In the meantime, they parade around in their patrol cars with the sirens on, lounge in lawn chairs at roadside checkpoints, swap stories and jokes, and try to stay on guard.
There are about 20,000 law enforcement officers and National Guard troops from all over Georgia here for the summit.
"Whatever can possibly go wrong, we're equipped to handle it," Jimmie Sams, a private security contractor brought in to help the Savannah police.
The overwhelming show of force apparently has scared away protesters. Only a few handfuls of activists had showed up by Monday -- the eve of the three-day meeting. There have been no arrests or disturbances.
But few locals or tourists are evident, either. One observer said that coastal Georgians used to seeing the streets patroled by military men in the humvees during hurricanes apparently responded to this event the same way and left town.
But those reponsible for the protection of some of the world's most powerful men say that after the Sept. 11, 2001, these measures are necessary for high-profile events like this summit.
"You have the eight most powerful economic countries coming here with their leaders," said Maj. Douglas Martin, a Canadian Army officer working with the North Atlantic Air Defense Command team in Savannah. "It's vital that people know we have a very good ... defense system in place.

The keywords in that story were "NO SUSPECTS WERE ARRESTED" even after having shot at the agents 11 times. Whoa Nellie, perhaps I just expect too much!
Re: Mexican trucks. The favorite approach of our local law enforcement is to call the Idaho State Police for safety
inspection on a traffic stop. Often, the inspection finds
many safety related problems. Occasionally, we find drivers
with drugs and drug paraphernalia. Frankly, I think the Mexican trucks should be required to pass a safety inspection to enter the U.S. Likewise, the Mexican truck drivers should be required to pass the same commercial driver's license and physical fitness requirements as any U.S. driver. They should also have the same driving hour restrictions. If the Mexicans want to play on our side of the border, they should have to play by the same rules as our own drivers.</p>
Saw a report of an Amtrak derailment in Chicago on TB2000 board, no links yet.

Search of Ohio Imam's Home Invalidated
Items Seized From Islamic Cleric's Home in Ohio Were Taken in an Illegal Search, Judge Rules
The Associated Press
CLEVELAND June 8, 2004 A terrorist group's manifesto and other items seized by the FBI in a search of an Islamic cleric's home were taken in an illegal search and cannot be used at his trial, a federal judge has ruled.
U.S. District Judge James Gwin, in a decision filed late Monday, ruled in favor of Fawaz Mohammed Damra, 41.
The Palestinian-born imam is accused of concealing ties to terrorist organizations when he applied for citizenship, which he received in 1994.
FBI agents searched his suburban Cleveland home Jan. 13 after his arrest and seized a computer, copies of sermons and political speeches, the manifesto of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and stacks of financial records.
Federal prosecutor James V. Moroney Jr. said the manifesto was the only item from the search that the government intended to use at the trial. He said no decision had been made on whether to appeal the judge's ruling.
Damra, leader of the Islamic Center of Cleveland, is scheduled to go on trial next week. He also has been charged with tax evasion, money laundering and fraud.
