That can be said for just about the entire I-95 corridor running from Central NJ to Boston. I know the Stamford/Greewich area pretty well, and I don't see it as any more of a target than White Plains or Harrison. That's why I asked the question.

Maybe Blue Thunder could be a reference to Tesla type technology....

Blue Thunder throwing 10+ foot white hot lightning bolts to the ceiling of the Large Machines Lab at New Mexico State University where it still resides.

Note that the straight line distance to the bottom corner of the lamp shown in the upper portion of this photograph is 10-1/2 feet from the toroid - and we had many strikes to it!

=========

If Tesla could do the following in 1899....what leaps and bounds in this technology have occured since that time.

"At ground zero, where Tesla and his assistant stood bedazzled, the resonant rise manifested itself in an unearthly display of lightning that still stands as the most powerful man-made electrical surge in history. The returning current formed an arc of lightning that stretched skyward from Tesla's tower and progressively grew to an incredible 130 feet long. Apocalyptic crashes of thunder were heard twenty-two miles away.

Tesla had been concerned that there might be an upper limit to generating resonant surges, but now he believed the potential was limitless. The demonstration did come to an unexpected halt, but that was because the power surge caused the overloaded Colorado Springs power generator to burst into flames. Tesla received no further free power from the plant's furious owners.

I saw the article, and what strikes me as strange about the report is that only residents, employees, and the VIPs and staff are allowed on the Island. From what I've read, the protesters are being kept in New Brunswick, GA more than an hour away.

Makes me wonder if our Homeland Security Dept. is really helping to coordinate all the information that they have on threats.

I still am of the opinion Homeland Security is responsible for informing all Americans of the possible dangers we face, including suggestions for protecting our families and ourselves. Not everyone has computers or lives in big cities with billboards alerting them. There is enough funding for propaganda purposes, but not enough for citizen protection (raising my eyebrow and pondering priorities) while porkbelly politician projects abound. Where is the concern for survival of our population? Instead of politician heads rolling, I fear it will be ours due to their neglect.

>>>The Blue Thunder

This was linked through a blog at allahpundit.com

Movie Plot Summary for Blue Thunder (1983)

Blue Thunder is a specially modified helicopter. It is for police work, but is armed and designed to counter street insurgencies. It's makers want to show what it will do, but have to train a Los Angeles Police pilot Frank Murphy, to fly and use it in order to allow it to operate in the city. Murphy and the project pilot have differences going back to Vietnam. The conflict between them continues to heat up as Murphy begins to suspect that Blue Thunder is more than has been disclosed.

I'm actually about an hour Northwest of downtown Stamford, but I do travel there and through there quite frequently.

Haven't spoken to Pop yet, but I have chatted with some SpecOps buddies who are knowledgeable in the realm of the "Back-Pack Nuke." They maintain that the device is designed to be from .5 kilotons to something like 5 kilotons at max and two kt is more like the reality.

If this is true (and I have no reason to disbelieve a Colonel of Special Forces, retired) then the damage and casualty analysis has to be reduced from what the link states. Still very bad, but probably not 800,000 dead. Blast effects would have to be reduced as well. Remember, all these stats are for a true nuclear detonation (no matter the size) with fairly dramatic EMP and burst of gamma radiation.

This has to be distinguished from a low yield so called "dirty bomb" which is really just high explosive with nuclear material (possibly stolen from medical facilities or such) wrapped around the device to disseminate through the atmosphere. The danger here is more from the explosion itself than any radiological contamination. It's a psychological weapon designed to damage morale rather than cause real trauma.

Stamford/Greenwich and New Cannan are the homes to top CEO of major Financial companies. Louis Dryfus, USB Warberg, Xerox, Pitney Bowes, Champion International, GE Capital, Olin, Hyperion Software all make their headquarters here.

It is an easy ride into Grand Central by train and a short ride into the city by car. Many people who work in NYC Financial district live here and commute.

It is one of the highest target areas in the tri state area along with NYC itself, Indian Point and Groton Sub Base.

UBS Warberg also has the largest commodities trading floor in the world. It's huge.

Diarra was arrested for giving false identification and then released.

It would probably shock the heck out of us to see how many of these "Catch and Release" occurrences are happening. I wonder sometimes if the era of Keystone Kops never ended.

And that stretch of I-95 is one of the most heavily traveled in the USA, allowing the bad guys to blend in with a crowd.
