Downtown Little Rock is the scene of an intense search after police arrested one man and found weapons, ammunition and a gas mask on a rooftop.
The situation began Wednesday evening after the suspect, Gared Tumblesome, tried to check into a downtown hotel, claiming to be an Air Force Special Forces member. Hotel employees became suspicious and alerted police. Tumblesome was later arrested as he reportedly tried to climb down from a rooftop in the 200 block of West 2nd Street. A search of the rooftop revealed the weapons and ammunition.
Police are still searching for another man, believed to have been staying with Tumblesome at another hotel. Police helicopters are hovering over downtown Little Rock as officers scour the area.
The Air Force has been investigating Tumblesome and claims he made about knowledge of military information.

Arkansas Man In Jail After Climbing Downtown Building( Air Date: 4/29/2004 )
A man accused of scaling a downtown Little Rock building with a loaded gun is now behind bars after facing a judge this morning.
Jared Tumbleson, 33, was charged with two misdemeanors: Carrying a weapon and criminal trespassing. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Police started looking for Tumbleson yesterday afternoon after getting several calls about suspicious behavior when he and another man tried to check in to two hotels.
Bond was set at $500,000. Tumblesons trial date was set for May 20th.
Little Rock Police search for half of suspicious duo from hotel check-in
LITTLE ROCK (AP) - A man who tried to check into a downtown hotel Wednesday with what clerks described as a "suspicious package" was captured after fleeing, and a second man was being sought hours later.
Police said the package was later found to contain a pair of military-style gas masks, a U.S. Navy ID card believed to be not genuine, a loaded .22-caliber handgun, ammunition for a 9 mm handgun and a shotgun - but no additional weapons, a knife and pornographic material.
Officers said the two, dressed in fatigues, tried to check into the hotel while carrying a large duffel-type bag. Clerks questioned the men about what was inside and the pair fled.
One man was caught quickly, but the other fled to the Pyramid Building, about two blocks away. The man could not immediately be found, but police scaled back a search and reopened downtown streets.
Police were interviewing the man detained. Hmmmm... Porno.. Little Rock |

Police Arrest Armed Man Wearing Body Armor on Rooftop
UPDATED - Thursday April 29, 2004 6:18pm Reporter: Pamela Smith Posted By: Tony Tabor Little Rock - We're learning more about the Searcy County man arrested after a bizarre run-in with Little Rock Police Wednesday night.
Jared Tumbleson appeared in court Thursday morning on misdemeanor charges of carrying a weapon and criminal trespassing.
Reaction is mixed among those who know Jared Tumbleson. He's being held on $35,000 bond while authorities sort out his strange behavior Wednesday night.
Tumbleson peacefully surrendered to Little Rock S.W.A.T. officers after they cordoned off sections of Markham and Louisiana where they intersected 2nd Street, as they negotiated a peaceful surrender.
Tumbleson had been seen perched atop an office building wearing rappelling gearing, carrying guns and ammunition. Police got a call about Tumbleson and another suspect wearing camouflage trying to check into a downtown hotel before witnesses told police he climbed atop the building. Back in Searcy County, Pastor Gary Mays hadn't heard about the incident, but said he's known tumbleson since he was a kid. "Hes a good kid, he grew up in this community, I knew his dad, I know his brother, he joined the military, was gonna go fight wars, became as far as I know, a Navy S.E.A.L., product probably of a lot of short-circuiting."
Mayes says he's looking forward to visiting with Tumbleson as soon as he gets a chance. Meanwhile, police are still looking for a second suspect.

You would think that the media in LR would have already vetted this idea, but maybe we need to do some FREEPER research. I would lay dollars to donuts that someone, at least minorly imprtant, has to be visiting LR either today or tomorrow.

Vice President Comes To NW Arkansas( Air Date: 5/2/2004 )A Wal-Mart distribution center in
Bentonville will host a visit on Monday from Vice President Dick Cheney. Wal-Mart`s political action committee supports vastly more Republican candidates than Democrats. Wal-Mart senior vice president for corporate affairs Jay Allen says the visit is a fund raiser for President Bush`s reelection. Allen says that is a personal activity and is not connected to the Bentonville-based retailer.

I think you may have found something here .. These yahoo's were originally trying to gain entry credentials into Little Rock AFB, which is most likely where VP Cheney would fly in. I wonder if this building is on the motorcade route, or what one might consider the most likely route.

VICE PRESIDENT DICK CHENEY COMING TO ARKANSAS
Vice President Dick Cheney is scheduled to make a brief visit to northwest Arkansas Monday morning.
Cheney and his wife, Lynne are to arrive at Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport and then go to a Wal-Mart distribution center, where the vice president is to address employees.
Wal-Mart spokeswoman Sharon Weber says community members organized the visit.

Bentonville is 200 miles away from Little Rock, so it looks as though he won't be flying in at the AFB. These guys are probably just local garden variety fruit loops. Tumblesome has a court date set for May 20th.

Do the cops know a target?
(That is if he wasn't going to pull off a Whitman spree, which could have been the case.)

Well, at least the Marine uniforms, and the Army uniforms, didnt look like Skycaps in the airport back in the 70's...
We can agree on that one....

I have known Jared for many years. This is completely not like him. Something is going on and instead of people trying to help and find the cause; everyone just wants to speculate the worst and poke fun. Has it ever occurred to any of you that he to has a family, friends, and loved ones that all these remarks may offend. Does no one have anything better to do with their time than to try and find ways to put others down? Jared is a good man, he was a former Navy Seal. It is not some kind of "alias"; that is his real name.
