The Clinton administration wanted NOTHING that smacked of a foreign terror attack on US soil... so anything that did was made to "go away" by turning into something it was not.

The OKC bombing was made a domestic militia plot incited by "right wing hate radio".

The TWA-800 shoot down was made into a mechanical Center Wing Tank explosion and the eyewitnesses were marginalized by a cartoon.

The Olympic Bombing was made into a sick man, Jewell, wanting attention ploy.

... and by the time they were caught at it, no one cared to go back and find out who really did all of these crimes.

It really works when the people ultimately in charge of the investigation don't want it to happen, it won't.

Too bad we need a putz like Dick Clark to shield us from tinfoil. Sure, it helps a little to have a slime ball from the other side back you up, due to all the people who worship the slime ball. Now, to reach the FReeping Thomas crowd:

I believe the hundred + witnesses who saw what could be a missile. That's more convincing to me of what happened than anything Dick Clark says. Then there was the lie about the orange RDX chemical being used to test bomb sniffing dogs. When that lie didn't work, they said, "Uups, it was glue." But that lie was discredited by whistle blowers who chemically tested the orange chemical and found out it was not glue. [Those whistle blowers were thrown in jail for 'stealing evidence'.] I believe TWA 800 was no accident in large part because of some of the Mike Reagan programs I was lucky enough to hear. Then there was that goofy computer simulation that showed the plane falling UP. Give me a break.

Then there was the former head of FAA investigations [or some such leadership role] who said that the jet fuel of commercial airlines was made much safer than people might believe. It's more like kerosene than the jet fuel used for military planes. But he was removed and replaced by a new guy, someone who used outdated charts to 'prove' that it could have been a fuel tank explosion. I saw both men sitting in the same hearing room. The new guy admitted that all this was new to him as he showed the House members charts.

I remember that hearing on c-span a long time ago. Traficant stood up, asked angry questions about the bomb sniffing dog fiasco, and then he said, "Something stinks." Traficant was later put in charge of a special TWA oversight commission and ultimately said that there is no way 'so many federal workers could be wrong'. Traficant, IMHO, was intimidated into backing down. Such a conclusion is lame. The previous conclusion that something stinks was right on target.

And and then there was the call to rewire all the commercial jets. Remember that? Congress tried to shake down the airlines a second time by threatening to have all the planes be rewired. That went nowhere, of course. Just another lie. The rewiring did not take place on anything close to large scale, and there was no major disaster afterwards as a result of bad wiring, except perhaps that plane crash right after 9-11-01 that was supposed to be caused by a flock of birds.

The pair had shown up in November 1994 with $25,000 in cash, bought the garage, and prepaid the lease through August 1995. Before the lease was up, the pair abandoned the business and gave it back to its original Iranian owner, himself a questionable character.

#1- Buying a car repair business AND prepaying the lease for 10 months with $25,000? Either it was a supremely crappy business, or they got an UNbelievable deal.

#2- Within 10 months, they give it up and GIVE IT BACK to the original owner? Okay.

As a small businessman who used to be in a related field, that simply doesn't happen.

When Jayna Davis heard of the TWA 800 disaster on July 17, she connected it immediately to her death threat and the cab driver's arrival in New York, both on July 16. Horrified at the implications, she had to wonder whether she had actually called the team's safe house.

So, a call to the NYC phone utility should have provided an address to correspond with the number. ?!? No follow up?

I wouldn't make that assupmtion. As with OKC, her follow-up probably got her nowhere. But it would be interesting to know. Too bad the author didn't include it as a postscript.

Here's a "will we finally hear the truth about TWA Flt 800?" bump.

If TWA Flt 800 was shot down by terrorists and that could be confirmed, the news would strengthen the resolve and anger of Joe Public Americana to fight terrorism in general and the war on terror in Iraq in particular. Bush's re-election chances would be enhanced and the Democrats would be viewed with even greater suspicion. And it would give Clinton an even more unforgetable legacy.

One doubts that the Iraqis helped bomb the Murrah building...but the Philippino press had a lot of reports about McNichols meeting arab terrorists in Makati (Manila) to learn how to make a car bomb. Heck, they even had comedy skits about Arab bombers at the time...even though two Philippine airlines planes were bombed in the early 1990's (one disappeared, one bomb blew up on the runway thanks to a delay in taking off) and their were well known threats to kill the Pope during his visit to Manila, stopped mainly because the traffic was too dense to get clost to him...

And there are lots of Muslims in Oklahoma...maybe because they came here to study, and stayed and brought their families to live in freedom...
