CLEVELAND (AP) - A woman said through tears Thursday that she lied about losing the winning ticket for a $162 million lottery prize awarded to another woman.
Elecia Battle, 40, of Cleveland, is dropping her lawsuit to block payment of the Mega Millions jackpot to the certified winner, said her lawyer Sheldon Starke.

A true piece of work, this lady. Her story was questionable from the start, but as soon as the real winner came forward she should have simply said "Oops, never mind" and faded into the background. Instead she had her lawyer file to prevent the lottery commission from awarding the winnings.
Charge her with the false report, brand her forever as an idiot and let her get on with raising her 7 lovely children. I'm sure they've learned a valuable lesson from this. (yeah, sarcasm)

Getting prepared for the *I wanted to win defense*.....or if that fails *I wanted to help the laid-off police officers defense*.....so far I only see a charge of filing a false police report. I don't know how about conspiracy to steal 60 million dollars?

When playing the lottery, a person is shelling out $1 for the privilege to daydream and hope for a whole day. So the proper equation is:
Net= -money spent +money earned +fun had while losing oneself in dreams of yachts and scantily clad... -disappointment of loss
It's when you trade your welfare check for 200 scratch-offs that your net is negative.

Assume you've been playing $5 a week for a year. 52 x 5 = $260. You've won $100. You're $160 in the hole!
A better ruse - take the $5 weekly and invest in comic books. Sit on them 10 years then resell - much better return.

She cried. She's sorry. She did it for the children AND the Cleveland policeman.
If I were the judge, I'd give her 4000 hours of community service. (That's 2 years of work) (40 hrs x 50 weeks).
Her rap sheet is all we know but I'm sure she has had other run-ins based on fraud that she "cried" her way out of.

It's a disgusting way to run a country. If I'm not mistaken, it's a state thing, not a national thing.

Ah yes, the 'something for nothing' attitude is alive and well in this country. Lotto tears at this countries fabric that was founded on hard work and ingenuity.

I remember one time my grandfather and I were fishing near Corpus Christi. We stopped at a gas station where, on a whim, my grandfather purchased 3 lotto tickets. Prior to that he never played, noting that it really didn't make any sense since the chances of winning were slim at best. As it turned out, his $3.00 whim won him $5,000.00! We blew off the fishing trip and spent the money on beer and women. Just kidding. After that he never purchased another ticket, noting that it really didn't make any sense since the chances of him winning again were even lower than before.

Well, actually, his odds of winning again are not in any way affected by his previous winnings. Each drawing is an independent event with its own odds. Just like spins on a roullette wheel.
