Now on to conserving morality. In a moral sense, should we help those that can not help themselves?

We, as people, should, if conscience compels us to do so.

The government, however has no legitimate authority to compel us.

And yes it's been tough for Bush to get his picks through, but we gotta keep trying. I guarantee you that not voting or voting third party is not going to make it any easier to get those appointments confirmed.

No never really a libertarian, although I once believed in more libertarian applications than I do now. I was more of just a garden variety Goldwater Republican (although even then a bit on the wet side), although I did support the Civil Rights Act, I am proud to say, at the grand old age of 13. With the slow passage of time, I have become more comfortable with notions of redistribution, up to a point. And I have become more comfortable with social security, which I now endorse as a hopeless statist. But Torie should be taxed on every penny of it he receives that is in excess of what he put in (in other words, he should pay for the interest factor). Heck, perhaps Torie should pay taxes on it all.

Well Mol, I have to simply say, in regards to the folks who were forced to sell their houses in Pennsylvania due to high taxes, they have voted Democrat for the last 20 years. Now they are living with the results.

On a positive side, They now realise who caused this problem. Does anyone there in Pennsylvania still believe that we need even higher taxes like Dean proposes?

The only way the government will have negative growth is when corporations and organizations which employ thousands of Americans begin taking the role of providing services usually provided and or are believed by some that the government should provide. This includes health-care, mail services, education funds for dependents, home security services, etc. It is then that the government will lose its face as being integral to people's lives, and business will take on many of the roles of the goverment, those businesses which employ thousands of people. It is then that the country will go back in a sort of the circle, where the government's most important job will be foreign affairs and defense.

AS I said, running a country and answering to a 50/50 divided nation and a media that is constantly haruanguing you, to win you have to play dirty and bend over backwards some times.Its a lot different than running a state. Every president has had to do that and I do not see how Bush could have the ratings he has now even with constant dim and media potshots at him without some of the things he has had to give in to keep the bigger picture in mind, which is keeping republicans in power...

Ditto here. If you think the constituion has been trashed enough then just give the Dims the opportunity to nominate another SCJ like Ginsburg and learn how much more it can be trashed.

Not voting for GWB is a sure fire way to loose. I'd rather take my chances than guarentee my arse will be handed to me.

I had a repairman for my heating pump yesterday who said that he'd voted for Bush in 2000 but that he wasn't sure whether he would vote for him in 2004. When I asked him "What is the alternative?" he had no answer. I do so hope I planted the seed that if he doesn't vote for Bush again, then he'll give his support to one of those vile dwarfs currently seeking to take over our country.

You make a good point! I am in your camp on this one for sure. It sort parallels the concept of electricity.

Because of the new demands, less cannot work. More efficient innovative technology is the only thing that can work. Our government needs to become more in line with that.

Well, I'll vote for my Congressman because he is fairly conservative and to my knowledge, there's no one more conservative (and electable) running against him. I'll vote for whichever Republican is the candidate against Boxer. Whoever gets the nod will be 100,000 times more conservative than her. And I will vote for President Bush because he's much more conservative than Dean or Hillary or Kuccinich or any of the other commie loving bastards running against him.

People vote with their values and their pocketbooks or so the polls so. I think the values and security of our great nation will triumph at the end and Bush will be reelected. But each one of us has to do our part like you have done...:)

Oh, I don't know that I'd vote for Dean, but it's a possibility - it might just depend what mood I'm in regarding what Bush says during the next presidential debates. If he comes across as prissy and making a bunch of 'conservative' promises in conflict with his record....It'll be hard to push that lever for him.

As far as Dean goes though, a Vermont newpaper has all of their news stories about him since 1999 up on their website in chronological order:

If you read the article in the link I provided you'll see that some programs were cut, taxes were not raised, the legislature didn't pass any cigarette taxes....the state was short on funds but Dean insisted on a balanced budget - and got it. Perfect, no. But he doesn't seem like a pork-barrel guy, that's for sure.

That happens every election cycle. He is part of the mushy middle. At least the guy didn't say that he was not going to vote against Bush.

Tax increases are going to be Dean's achillies heel. Just like it was Mondale's, once the campaign gets in full gear.
