WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Investigators raided the offices of Rush Limbaugh's doctor Thursday, saying in search warrants that the conservative radio commentator engaged in illegal drug use and "doctor shopping" for prescription painkillers.
The warrants show investigators were looking for records including prescription disbursements, appointment schedules, receipts and a medical questionnaire.
"Mr. Limbaugh's actions violate the letter, and spirit" of the law that relates to "doctor shopping," stated one of warrants, signed by Asim Brown, a law enforcement agent assigned to the state attorney's office anti-money laundering task force. Doctor shopping refers to looking for a doctor willing to prescribe drugs illegally.
Limbaugh denied any wrongdoing to listeners on his radio show earlier Thursday and accused prosecutors in Palm Beach County of going on a "fishing expedition."

I suspect this will backfire on the authorities. Their actions are so transparent only the most blind idealogue could fail to see that this is purely political.

If Rush did the crime, he should do the time.
To: Lucky2
I didn't know doctor shopping was against the law.
Smells like a witch hunt to me.

Going to multiple doctors is illegal???

Mr. Limbaugh violated the penumbra and emanations of the law...

"Doctor Shopping"? Let's see. What should the penalty be: life in prison, or the chair?
To: Lucky2
Well, which law are they saying he violated the "spirit and intent" of? Anyone know?

He should be treated no differently than anyone else in the same situation.
That's not what seems to be going on. They're fishing.

it's a good thing there aren't terrorists running around or any other kinds of threats like that which these law enforcement types could otherwise be working on.

I didn't know doctor shopping was against the law. Well if it is, we might as well lock up 5 or 10 million addicts - starting with the sleeping-pill-poppers in Congress. Gotta be at least 20 % of them, they got such stressful jobs...

Money laundering? Patriot Act used?

Id like to agree with you, but transparent political motivation didnt backfire on John Ashcroft in the Tommy Chong case.
And Chongs crimes were inarguably far less serious than Rushs.
Good luck to Rush. He's going to need it.

If Rush did the crime, he should do the time. Only if he does the same "time" as non-celebrity violators who did the same thing, which is generally "little to none".

There is a lot of doctor shopping going on, I hear about it all of the time. I have never heard of anyone getting prosecuted for it however. Anyone else?

I didn't think it was illegal, either, but apparently in the case of narcotic usage,or other controlled substances, it is. (Many get caught via pharmacy networks-if they are using the same name on the prescriptions.) The pharmacy will note the overlapping prescriptions, notify one of the prescribing doctors.

Kendall Coffey, a former Federal Prosecutor from Miami, was just on MSNBC and he told Chris Jansing that the heat is obviously being turned up on Rush (or words to that effect).
