Will the latest news about Ted Cruz hurt his chances for the 2016 GOP nomination? Click to learn the betting odds for the junior Texas senator and other contenders for the Oval Office.

When Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, was a teenager, he was caught doing teenage things, as revealed in documents obtained by BuzzFeed.

In his application to become Texas solicitor general, Cruz was required to list any prior convictions. That included one "guilty plea for minor in possession of alcohol."

Apparently when Cruz was a high school senior in 1987, authorities found an unopened case of beer in his vehicle. They gave him a ticket....

"He volunteered the Minor in Possession plea when he was up for Solicitor General Texas. The fact that he could have kept a sealed Minor thing quiet and did not, speaks loudly about his character."

That's why this will go nowhere. The Houston Chronicle just shot themselves in the foot. Even the lowest "low-information voter" will not give a damn.

True, but with Bush it was a last-minute hit on a much more serious (thanks to a couple decades of MADD) subject.

This is much more minor and out a lot earlier. It invites ridicule (or the newspaper) which will overwhelm any attempt to gain substantive political traction on it.

It not only reinforces our case that Cruz and other Conservatives are held to different and much higher standards, it gives us plenty of time to make that case.

And yet we still know next to nothing about Soetoro’s life before he became a State Senator in Illinois.

We know that he REALLY enjoyed his illicit drugs as a kid. We know he did cocaine. We know he worshipped Alah as a kid. But that's ok because he is a democrat. There is no moral standards for democrat leaders.

Rand Paul On Shutdown: "Even Though It Appeared I Was Participating In It, It Was A Dumb Idea"
I said throughout the whole battle that shutting down the government was a dumb idea. Even though it did appear as if I was participating in it, I said it was a dumb idea. And the reason I voted for it, though, is that it's a conundrum. Here's the conundrum. We have a $17 trillion debt and people at home tell me you can't give the president a blank check. We just can't keep raising the debt ceiling without conditions. So unconditionally raising the debt ceiling, nobody at home wants me to vote for that and I can't vote for that. But the conundrum is if I don't we do approach these deadlines. So there is an impasse. In 2011, though, we had this impasse and the president did negotiate. We got the sequester. If we were to extend the sequester from discretionary spending to all the entitlements we would actually fix our problem within a few years.

Rand Paul: Time for GOP to soften war stance
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...

An unopened case of beer in the trunk of his car? I’ve told my kids, since they’re now grown, that the stuff we did and got away with when I was a teenager would probably make their escapades look thin. Or maybe not. Either way I’m not telling them all the details and don’t want to hear theirs either. But if this is the worst they can dig up on The Cruzader he was a choirboy compared to most people I know.

Wow, Ted Cruz was a normal high school senior. That’s a hell of a lot more then we can say about the current fraud stinking up the bathhouse. He was blowing older gay men to get money for weed and coke.

Next thing you know, we’ll find out that he once went through the Express Lane at the supermarket with MORE than 15 items.

I heard once pranked somebody on the phone as a kid. Are the stories true about him staying out past curfew?

Don’t love it. In the last elections it has proved highly effective. Bush â was almost derailed by this sort of thing.

Bush WAS DRINKING.

This was UNOPENED beer.

If anything, I think this incident will gain votes for Cruz!

He smoked cigars, too!

He has Cuban heritage, so unless they were cheap cigars he is just demonstrating honor for his fathers. Of course, ff they were cheap cigars he is a reproach to his Cuban ancestors.

The cops would just take all our beer. They got free beer, we didn’t get ticketed. Fair enough, I guess.

Hey Chronicle, did the fact that Obummer smoked WEED when in high school sink his chances in 2008 or 2012 for that matter?

Don’t look now but I think your hypocritical slip is showing. Houston we have a problem with your double standards!
