Obama May Not Run For A Second Term
Politicology ^ | September 16, 2011 | Noah Rothman

With President Obama’s political troubles mounting, some analysts are suggesting that President Obama’s Democratic backers may approach him in the very near future and ask him, politely, to forget that second term.

“I’m warning my clients — ‘Don’t run in 2012.” The Hill quotes one unnamed Democratic strategist today, voicing concerns about Obama’s coattails or lack thereof next year.

Wall Street Journal’s John Fund Says Obama’s Backers Are Backing Off:

(VIDEO AT LINK)

“The odds of me being reelected are much higher than the odds of me being elected in the first place,” Obama told a group of Washington D.C. fundraisers on Thursday night. That was meant to reassure Democratic donors rather than scare the bejeezus out of them. He may have accomplished the latter.

Obama has said on numerous occasions that he is perfectly content with serving a single term in the White House. Obama told NBC News in June that there are moments “where I say that one term is enough.” He famously declared in 2009 that if he did not have the economy turned around in three years that his presidency would be a “one term proposition.”

Now rumors emanating from unnamed White House sources are suggesting that the president’ political failures have left Obama on the verge of clinical depression. A Gawker article from September 12 suggested that Obama “has seemed increasingly listless to associates.”

There will be no primary strategy against the president. The money is on his side and the Democratic Party’s black voters would revolt and fracture the party, dooming their chances in 2012. There is a scenario where Obama would demurely reject another run at the presidency… A committee requesting he leave, promising a Supreme Court seat or similar high profile position and replacing him at the top of the ticket with one other popular Democratic politician.

Buyer’s remorse among Democrats and the nation in general, is high. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Obama’s chief rival for the Democratic nomination in 2008, is now the country’s most popular politician. President Obama’s political troubles would be undone by Hillary Clinton. She could reverse the party’s fortunes among working-class white voters who supporter her in the primaries (Hillary carried Ohio and Pennsylvania, two state’s that will be battlegrounds in 2012 and sponges of Democratic campaign dollars). Memories of the Clinton economy in the 1990s would nearly reverse Obama’s record of failure and the tainted image of the Democratic Party’s handling of the economy.

That does not mean this possibility is around the corner. President Obama, by bowing out, would virtually cede his place in the history books. For a President that has incontrovertibly viewed himself as historic and transitional, that would be a big blow. President Bush left office deeply unpopular and had resigned himself to vindication in the history books. It is less believable that Obama would similarly leave his fortunes to chance.

That said, if Obama did bow out, it would raise Democratic prospects for a win in 2012 exponentially.

The Dems will allow Obama to retire and make it look like he’s serving the country while doing so.

I cannot see them allowing Obama to stay, when they have as much on the guy as they do, considering the disaster they are facing if he stays.

If Obama decided not to run, the only way another Dem could win would be to renounce Obama’s policies and run to the right of the Republican candidate, which ain’t going to happen.

The nuts and bolts of the Democratic party are the Senators and Representatives. At the present pace...there’s no doubt that the Republicans will keep the same number of Representatives in the House, and I suspect that will be 52 Republicans in the Senate when the smoke clears in November. If they pulled Hillary into the race...she could mount a fairly serious race against Perry or Romney....and maybe take back on the Senate and House seats. It would make sense but I doubt it would happen.

“political failures have left Obama on the verge of clinical depression”

Good.

He can join the ever-expanding ‘depression club’ with the rest of us.

Actually, this could play out a lot like the Dem campaign did in '68. A lot of people don't remember that Johnson actually started running for reelection that year. Eugene McCarthy lost, but made a much stronger showing than expected in the NH primary by running to the left of LBJ. This showed some fractures in LBJ's armor, which resulted in Bobby Kennedy being drafted and making a run up the middle.

I could see a Kucinich, Nader etc., actually trying a run to the left of Obama and getting some of the far left base, then Hillary being brought in to "save the party," with Obama being discreetly asked to exit stage left.

When the decision is made - and it's really the only decision they CAN make - he will be "replaced" in a way that will solidify the black vote.

Clinical depression symptoms may include:

To meet the criteria for clinical depression (called major depression in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), you must have five or more of the above symptoms over a two-week period. At least one of the symptoms must be either a depressed mood or a loss of interest or pleasure. Keep in mind, some types of depression may not fit this strict definition.

Though Hillary might lose black women (who would just stay home), she might make up for that loss by picking up a large chunk of female independent vote.

The multimillion dollar book deal he signs will help lessen the depression.
And then there are the speaking tours. His appetite for travel will no longer be on tax payers dime, but doesn't he and his family have Secret Service protection for life?
Won't the Mooselle get protection too. Is that the definition of double dipping?
Seems like the only time they are together is for a photo-op.

If Obama is replaced by a white person of either sex, blacks in general won’t vote. I think the scenario where they go out and riot is a little far-fetched, but they most certainly voted for Obama only because of his skin color (heck, he’s not even really “African American,” in the true sense of that phrase) and because he used it to stoke resentments and make them think they were going to get special preference under him.

Maybe they did - they do have the highest unemployment rate under him, after all. But black voters were very firmly committed to Obama and simply will not criticize him and would never vote for any white candidate who replaces him, no matter who. The problem is that white Democrat voters would probably never vote for a black candidate again, or not for a long time, at least although they might vote for Obama again.

So I don’t see the Dems being able to get rid of him if they want to keep the black vote, and while it’s not a huge percentage of the vote overall, it was crucial to their win in the important states.

That said, I think he’d leave if he was offered something like Supreme Court justice or possibly if they could rework UN rules so he could be Secretary General. The other possibility would be something like head of the Ford Foundation or some other Marxist-oriented mega-foundation.

But I don’t really think the Dems can lose him if they want to keep the black vote.

Now add to that list of symptoms those that result from cocaine use.

I think they did away with that.
