Good morning!
The President has left for his Africa trip amidst the Dem's summer of discontent.
In local news, a couple was arrested over the weekend for starting fireworks in their home...

If I'd not waited, I'd have driven right thru that nightmare. I'm glad you waited.
You have been having some nasty weather, lately.
We had rain last night , but nothing too severe.

RAIN!!! Glorious Rain. Finally we got some, too. We had no rain at all in June. We had .1 on Sunday. This afternoon we got .6 We were nearing the critical stage with the crops.
Of course, .7 isn't going to take us very far with the heat degree days we've been having. But it will get us into the weekend without additional stress on the crops.

Hi! You never answered my question....about the barn owls....;-)
To: Bitwhacker
Oh yeah..I forgot the question.
Got it...
Do you go out and buy the owls for your barn right away, or do you have to wait until the structure ;settles'???
The only thing I can say about an owl is what David Letterman said...
Larry King...he looks like an owl!!

LOL!!! Well, i don't think Larry King will catch very many mice if you put him in the barn...;-)
To: Bitwhacker
(BTW, the first time I went to Switzerland, I stayed at a place called Hotel Euler -- German for owl -- and the place was filled with all kinds of owls: stuffed owls, carved owls, ceramic owls...the place gave me the creeps, with all those eyes staring at me...)
To: Molly Pitcher
Wow....tornado???
To: Bitwhacker
Spooky...
So....what do I cook for a hubby who said he wouldn't be home tonight but just called to tell me he would be home in less than 45 minutes? Everything meatwise is frozen..Guess I better fire up the grill.

Thanks for the head's up. Looks like we have another one to keep an eye on. I took a quick look at the Satellite pictures and with luck it won't make it into the Gulf too far, but actually get drug to the Yucatan Pennisula (not that they need any more storms either!)
Looks like it's gonna be a busy year! Oh joy...

If he wasn't such a nice guy, I'd do just that....however...because of him I can do this...FReep..
Slapped some chicken thighs on the gas grill....opposite side of the lit burner. I figure they can thaw and cook at the same time. LOL
Nothing fancy tonight.

IG, you're happy then!! All the rain for the crops has been to the east of you in Ill,In, and Oh.
Don't think a tornado, Raven, just very strong winds...and there at the edge of the Valley..lots of trees and those ravines.
It'll be a story if we DON'T get another blast in the next couple of hours - the 4th in as many days. I go out to pick stuff up, eye the w. sky, and then come in to check the radar.
The electr. still hasn't returned my call, so one circuit, and the garage door isn't working, and the van is outside...not good under the circumstances.

Too bad we don't live closer. With Hubby coming home tonight he could look at your wiring. He did all the electrical installation in our house. The inspector was quite impressed with his work. In fact, he..Hubby... wanted to become an electrician, but in this area you need to know someone to get into the union. He didn't..
All the trusses are up and we are about half done with the roofing. It's coming along quite nicely. We should be done by the time the new addition arrives in October or November.

Don't think a tornado, Raven, just very strong windsI thought the same thing as Raven. I read or heard somewhere that tornadic activity and hail are associated.

It's perfectly ok to grill frozen meats. In fact, it's recommended for meats frozen at home, in a slow freezer, because slow freezing creates ice crystals that make home-frozen meats "leak" when you thaw them. Cooking them while frozen seals in the moisture that would leak out.
I got a job offer today at a new fine-dining restaurant that will open in August. The executive chef offered it to me. This is not a job I was soliciting, it came out of the blue. I was really suprised.

Hello Kayak,
The 2LT called me 10 days ago. He used a satellite phone (who's I do not know). The connection was terrific. I actually thought for a moment that he was in the States already. There was then some chance at him being back by mid July, but they have been assured that no later than late August.
I am hoping for the July date of course. There was a weariness in his voice, and I think that the extended stay in those harsh conditions is taking a toll on morale.
