The weather wasn't bad where I am, but O'Hare and near Chicago suburbs were hit hard. Small towns 10 miles North of us got hit, also. "Scattered thunderstorms" apply. We are very dry.

The book review of Living History in Reason Magazine is really funny. I thought of you, Miss Marple, when I read the rewrite a la romantic novel which is included. The title is "Living Hillary: The art of ghost writing". I couldn't get the link to work, but be sure to go to Reason and read it to get a big Monday morning laugh.

They had Monica Crowley..(one of my favorites) on and she's so smart & I love listening to her...

..but when they opened the lines to callers...one of those despicable Howard Stern thugs got through...

..and it was awful what he said.

But our professional 3-some quickly hung up on him, and covered it over as best they could!

How in the world can someone like that caller get through.....????

Good morning. My back is cranky this morning. Heard on the radio a few minutes ago that Buddy Ebsen passed away over the weekend. I always thought they went in threes, but lately the celebs are dropping like flies.

Thanks! I often come to this thread for strength when the future looks dark. I live in Silicon Valley where the anti-Americanism is virulent. But I travelled inland to visit my uncle (see "Pray for my Uncle, a Marine who helped defend Wake"). Flags were flying everywhere, bumper stickers were patriotic, and people were friendly. I think the change began around the time I drove up out of the Bay Area on 605.

Sometimes I worry that we're losing our focus, and then I stop by this thread to be reminded that Americans will not give up. Fight they will.

We stopped by Winnemucca to watch the fireworks display there on the way back, and I realized that inland America is a different world.

By the way, here are my weather stats for Santa Clara county near the bay: Temperature 57° Humidity: 86% Winds: 8 mph NW Pressure: 29.95 F. Visibility: 10 mi.

I joked in another thread that Cupertino was too broke to have a fireworks display this year -- that instead they hired some illegal aliens to run around with lighters, shouting "Boom!"

Turns out Cupertino IS too broke, and DID cancel their 2003 fireworks display.

It was said in a lighthearted way.
