I do not know if this site has been around for a long time or not. I just discovered it this morning. Some may find it interesting.

I want you to know that its teachers like you who set the standard...

I am humbled beyond words, Nita. Thank you...

I cannot take the credit. I had a wonderful upbringing by my parents, who instilled in me, and my brothers and sisters, with the love of God and Country.

God has blessed me infinitely, and I am happy to do what I can.

God Bless!

Jay

Greetings all. All of the arrangements for Trill's visit are made, from the limo to pick her up at the airport and handle her lugggage for her, to the reservations at the hotel we will be staying at Monday night, to the reservation at the B&B for Tuesday night.

I'm all packed up, with my clothes for the next 3 days set aside. With all of the work done, I think it's time for a hamburger, cold beer, and my book.

/john

I just love my sweet little church.

Today was communion...and the sermon was part of a series our Pastor is doing on The Purpose Driven Life (Romans 12:1,2)

After service, we had our fellowship meal, and as I'm still learning my new church friends here, I sat next to a lady (about my age) & we discovered we had much in common!

She & her hubby (like mine) were highschool sweethearts....
...She married a year before I did, so we've been married about the same length of time...
...she had two children, like I do....
..and our oldest are the same age (& both hers & mine are having fertility problems, and her's is now pregnant & she gave me the name of this wonderful doctor in town!!)..
...and her youngest is just a year older than my son...

...and we both recently joined the new exercise club close by :)))

...and we both were complaining about recent weight gain this year ( a few pounds here & there) and I told her my theory that 9/11 caused it......and she agreed!!! :)

We're going to meet for lunch when I return from the vacation.

Eric's at AIT in petroleum supply. He called last night and told us that Ft. Lee was nicer than Ft. Knox, and that he was going to be able to listen to some CD's, watch a movie or two, and have some down time.

We're hoping to get him to NE Ohio for my sister's wedding in October since it will be at the end of his AIT time. If we can, we thought we'd need to get him a flight from Richmond to Pittsburgh, but we're just going to wait and see.

Is Ft. Lee a small base? Compared to some of the others, you can barely spot it on a map!

Thank you all for mentioning "Ollie", he was a gem.

Guenie, Guenie Bear is still the imp she was born to be. Yesterday, sometime, she rolled in some loose hay and wore it the rest of the day. She is so independent.

gc, llamas are dears, they are gentle creatures, but once in awhile there is one with an attitude. We have one and her name is Jitterbug. Should you decide to play with llamas, they do not tolerate heat well especially when there is high humidity. We keep a large fan on each end of a shed, the shed is open on all four sides, in which we keep dampened clean sand to help keep them cool.
Llamas "air conditioner" is located in their ankles. If you have a stock tank, they will wander into it from time to time. We do have shade trees and they hang out there too.
At this point in time llamas are not too expensive. If you buy any, llamas love being with llamas, so you should get two to begin with. They do not do well with high protien grasses. There are various llama feed blends, the most popular being, the brand name, Mazuri and we supplement with minerals especially made for llamas. We also always have hay for them to much on. They do not like feeding on tall grass, they like it short. They are browsers, they love Hackberry and other leaves, mine love crepe myrtle. They "potty" in a few places, but always in the same places, they do not spread it all over the pasture, therefore making it easy to clean up the pellets and use it for the garden and flowers. Another thing about the pellets, they do not have to be "aged" before putting around plants they can be fresh and steaming. Llamas are easy to train, take them through their paces 6 or 7 times and they know what they are supposed to do. There are some good books on llamas and Tx A&M's animal husbandry department has excellent information. There are some good websites too. What do people do with llamas? Some llamas have been trained to carry their master's or mistresses golf bags. Some are used in the mountains to pack the hickers gear. There are working llamas, who protect goats and sheep or any other farm animal. We put our adolescent boys out on the ranch when they reach "that" age and they have proven to be excellent protectors of the live stock. Or they can be, like our girls and main male, pets that are fed, petted and spoiled.

Is Ft. Lee a small base?

Yes, but there is plenty of acreage to run around. This will be less restrictive and less physical for Eric than BCT was.

I was in Richmond last Aug. If U.S. Air is still viable, they have a direct to Pittsburg for about $129 r/t.

Oh, btw, Ft. Lee has a shuttle to RIC. It's free. If there isn't a Ft. Lee Army shuttle when he arrives, tell him to use Groome Transportation. Their shuttle is $28.
