Its bout time to do a few things around the house and start supper, here is hoping you all have a good evening.
To: Molly Pitcher
Oh, THANK YOU for the rest of the words to Sleep Kentucky Babe, Molly! I only know the first two sections, and as a matter of fact was singing that very song as we drove around Ft. Knox!
Do you realize that there is documentation that children talk sooner and more articulately if their mothers sing to them........even if they don't have great voices?
We sang the Missouri Waltz with 'lullaby words' to our kids, and if both of us were there, we sang in harmony.......downright beautiful if I do say so myself! LOL!
I'm afraid lullabies aren't sung much any more, although I know that algores Mom still sang them to him when he was 27.....
To: M Kehoe
Cool! Can you tell me anything about Ft. Lee?
I can tell by the map that it's a whole lot smaller than Ft. Knox, but that's about all we know.
btw, Eric said that some guys were actually crying or collapsing on the 15K march up Agony, Misery and Heartbreak hills. He said that he wasn't, but that he sure knew why they were!

Hey Molly, I was looking for you!

I don't have TV at all except for a set hooked up to a VCR. But this evening I plan to go over to my sister's place and watch the Nebraska game.
Looking forward to those pictures.
By the way, we bought a scanner two weeks ago, but I haven't got it working yet. The error message I keep getting is a complete puzzle, not mentioned anywhere in the help.

She isn't answering her phone.

Hi CS! And I'm waiting to be found! LOL!
Has school started yet?

Have to go...husband needs the computer.
You're probably all set for your classes, and don't forget to check your "Comments" Monday, dear girl!

No, I won't be watching the trial. I have to work so I'll probably try to lurk on FR and see what's being posted (if I can find a civil thread).

Well, you asked so I checked just in case I had missed something. No one at my Wodehouse newsgroup (alt.fan.wodehouse) had a name for Mr. Mulliner. Too bad, I think. By the way, it didn't even occur to me when I picked the name that it was somewhat close to our own Miss Marple with the same abbreviation. But there it is, a done deal now.
Have you read any of Thomas Sowell's stuff lately about education. He had a 3-part article called "Teaching to the Test" and now there's another one called "Teaching to the Education Fads." (They're all posted at FR, but didn't get much play.) Anyway, I bring them up for a couple of reasons. One reason is that the failings of public education and especially the NEA has been my latest hobby horse. But also, because Thomas Sowell says something that I've said many times at Free Republic, namely that a major reason for the failure of public education is that it's not attracting the best and brightest, but rather the worst and dumbest. (That's a generalization, but I know there are plenty of a few good teachers left.)
Here's a quote from "Teaching to the Test, part III.
Despite all-out efforts by the education establishment to blame the declining educational standards in our schools on everything imaginable except the people who teach there on parents, students, television or society the cold fact is that today's students are often simply not taught enough academic material in the first place. Even if there were flawless parents, perfect students, no television and no problems in society, students could still not be expected to learn what they were never taught. In fact, it is a lot to expect the teachers themselves to teach what they do not know or understand. Tests have repeatedly shown, for decades on end, that college students who go into teaching score at or near the bottom among students in a wide variety of fields. No wonder they dislike tests. And no wonder that they find innumerable fads more attractive than teaching solid skills, which they themselves may not have mastered.

Gee illstillbe, I could murder a garden ripe tomato. Can you send some to Florida?
To: Mr. Mulliner
It is Windows XP. A lot of people are having problems with the Drivers which were written before the new OS systems came out. I do not know the solutions which they have found. I will see what I can dig up. I`ll get back to you on that when I learn something that may help.
