A Maryland daughter has claimed that the nurse who provided home care to her father battling Parkinson’s transferred the deed to his South Carolina property for just $5 before he died.
Nora Rowland not only learned that the property rights to her 75-year-old father Robert Rowland’s home had been transferred, but also that he had died when she paid what she thought would’ve just been a routine visit on Father’s Day in June 2024, WMBF reported last Thursday.
Robert Rowland, who lived in Conway, received visits from his nurse Sarah Smalls in March 2024 before he was moved into a senior living facility weeks later due to his ailing health — unbeknownst to his daughter.
Nora Rowland, who lives in Baltimore, Md., became alarmed that their contact dramatically reduced over time, which was uncharacteristic, so she traveled around 460 miles to visit him.
“My dad was always a daddy’s girl type thing, so it was always me and him throughout my whole life,” she told WMBF. “We FaceTimed every week.”
Rowland’s suspicions increased when she had to press a Ring doorbell – a device she knew her father didn’t install.
She was met by Smalls, who then stunned her with the tragic news.
“This isn’t the way that I wanted to tell you, but your dad died, and there’s a bunch of other stuff I have to tell you too. Just wait there,” Smalls said, according to Rowland.
Rowland then climbed through a window before discovering that the home’s walls had been painted with what she described as a “god-awful highlighter orange” and “random photographs” had been put up.
“Oh my God! Everything is gone! Who the f–k are these people?” she was heard yelling in footage she had recorded.

No, the new homeowner apparently made the radical decision not to exercise their rights under the Castle Doctrine.
Instead, they chose not to grab their shotgun and blast the burglar who was climbing through a window of their home. An absolutely shocking failure to embrace the full spirit of the Second Amendment.
It’s my observation that nothing makes people greedy like a death of someone that left assets to be had.
When my wife’s father passed away her aunt probated his estate into her name knowing full well my wife was rightful heir.
My wife didn’t immediately discover what had happened because she was estranged from her dad (his decision).
A very long story, too much to share here but it took quite a while to unravel the mess that woman created.
Long story short, the Bible has a lot to say about money, and none of it good.

This is a story as old as time. Great novels have been written about the caretaker or lawyer who screws over the elderly. Several great quotes come from one of Kurt Vonnegut’s great novels, God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater:

An alert lawyer will make that moment his own, possessing the treasure for a magic microsecond, taking a little of it, passing it on.”
“Just as a good airplane pilot should always be looking for places to land, so should a lawyer always be looking for situations where large amounts of money were about to change hands.
The quotes are humorous but sadly telling. Any fiduciary or caretaker can be a scumbag who uses a death or transfer of wealth upon death as a means of personal gain. Its a lesson to children to make sure that your parents’ lawyers and caretakers are honest people.
Oldest trick in the book. Under CA law, the lawsuit against the nurse is an automatic win unless the caregiver can prove the transfer was NOT the product of undue influence. I can’t imagine the nurse could carry that burden of proof. No idea if SC has similar law
My mother in law had a black care giver overnights. 9p - 6a. Her job was to be awake for my MIL because she needed meds and care etc every 2 hours. We discovered that she simply went to bed at 9:30, got up at 5:30, gave her meds then and threw out some meds to look like she was taking them. She left at 6am and would go to her other job well rested. She was fired by her employer.
Absent any other information, just this description seems pretty revealing.
2. What Sarah Smalls did should be punished with the death penalty. Crimes such as this are so heinous that they should be capital crimes. Also with massive financial frauds, and betrayal of public trust by politicians. These are crimes for which China routinely executes people, and we should do the same.

Daughter should hire some out of th=own thugs to explain transfer of property legalities.
After bowling, my siblings stayed for beer and burgers. We ordered the food, and by the arrival time, the entire estate was determined with the notes for the attorney. We grew up without and encouraged dad to spend it all. There wasn’t much, but we were happy children.
For years it has been obvious that jobs that afford access to children — scout leaders, choir masters, youth ministers, sports coaches — are sought out by pedophiles.
It’s easy to imagine that jobs with little supervision caring for elderly people with limited mobility, failing memories and judgement, etc. are magnets for thieves and charlatans.
Jewelry, antiques, prescription meds, and I guess entire houses are up for grabs. I like your camera suggestion.

When my mother inlaw got sick a home health care aide was hired to help take care of her. MIL passed and caregiver kept calling FIL asking for money. For over 9 years she has been after him for weekly money. His memory has gotten so bad he couldn’t remember the last time he went to the bank so former home health aide was getting 500-600 twice a week.
Recently the father in law broke his hip and is now in assisted living. All money cut off from the grifter. Oh did she cry!!

The posibility is strong that the property in question was consideration for the care nursing home stay the daughter failed to oversee and provide
