A Maryland daughter has claimed that the nurse who provided home care to her father battling Parkinson’s transferred the deed to his South Carolina property for just $5 before he died.
Nora Rowland not only learned that the property rights to her 75-year-old father Robert Rowland’s home had been transferred, but also that he had died when she paid what she thought would’ve just been a routine visit on Father’s Day in June 2024, WMBF reported last Thursday.
Robert Rowland, who lived in Conway, received visits from his nurse Sarah Smalls in March 2024 before he was moved into a senior living facility weeks later due to his ailing health — unbeknownst to his daughter.
Nora Rowland, who lives in Baltimore, Md., became alarmed that their contact dramatically reduced over time, which was uncharacteristic, so she traveled around 460 miles to visit him.
“My dad was always a daddy’s girl type thing, so it was always me and him throughout my whole life,” she told WMBF. “We FaceTimed every week.”
Rowland’s suspicions increased when she had to press a Ring doorbell – a device she knew her father didn’t install.
She was met by Smalls, who then stunned her with the tragic news.
“This isn’t the way that I wanted to tell you, but your dad died, and there’s a bunch of other stuff I have to tell you too. Just wait there,” Smalls said, according to Rowland.
Rowland then climbed through a window before discovering that the home’s walls had been painted with what she described as a “god-awful highlighter orange” and “random photographs” had been put up.
“Oh my God! Everything is gone! Who the f–k are these people?” she was heard yelling in footage she had recorded.

The caregiver industry attracts more parasites than any other segment of healthcare delivery.
My wife had an experience with her grandparent years ago that put us both on skeptical footing. An aid had been systematically removing collectables (eastern jade art) and a couple of cheap cameras forced local Police to act.
Some people are scum. Never again.
There is no mention of what the father needed or actually willed to happen to insure he received the needed care.
The daughter has apparently actually abandoned him to the care giver

Agree, as soon as my mother’s health declined, my sibling and I set up medical and financial power of attorney. We monitor our mother’s bank and credit card accounts, and I also installed cameras in the house.
That deed had to be prepared before that...and I’ll bet that it’s the filing date...and not the signature date.
When my MIL was passing in an upscale senior facility in Ventura, CA, DH spent as much time as possible with her.
She died during the night between Friday and Saturday. When Hubby got there first thing Saturday, all of her jewelry was gone. When he left on Friday night, she was wearing her diamond rings. (I know she shouldn’t have, but they were important to her, so ...) At 6 a.m. Saturday they were missing — as well as the jewelry in her dresser.
DH raised hell and asked where her stuff was and, of course, nobody knew. Hubby filed a police report, but nothing was found. My instinct is that the thief was her Hospice person; I always had a hinky feeling about her. Hubby and I both think it’s very possible that it was the administrator of the facility. He displayed conspicuous consumption relative to his position.
It happened during the night in a locked and secure building, so it had to be an inside job.
I suggest that if anyone has loved ones in a facility like this, surreptitiously plant nanny cams in the room(s).

my kids have pissed me off at times so bad I swore I’d will everything to the UNCF!! No telling if that was the case here.

Nora may not fully grasp the meaning of “Always.”
I will probably be doing similar soon considering my parents age and health.
The article mentions the daughter and "her partner" being arrested for trespassing so I'm guessing dad will now vote exactly as she does.

Was Rowland charged with Breaking and Entering?
If not, why not?

Usually it says $1 plus blah blah blah...to cover contract law that there must be consideration. So the $5 doesn't mean much without other confirmation.
