For years, whether as president or candidate, he flayed electoral opponents and previous presidents with his signature barbs, calling their entanglements a “complete waste of time” (Afghanistan), “the worst single mistake ever made in the history of our country” (Iraq) and “stupid” (Ukraine).
Yet he now appears to be stumbling into a forever war of his own.
From the first days of the U.S.-Israeli campaign against Iran, Trump and his officials insisted their adventure abroad would be the exception, that the conflict would end in a matter of weeks.
Now, 4½ months later, after a torturous, start-stop vacillation between truce and war, the U.S. is pressing on with a fight that has no end in sight — or even a clear definition of what an acceptable end would be.
In the last week, the ceasefire collapsed, with the U.S. and Iran trading daily waves of strikes, leading to the deaths of two American servicemen on Friday when Iranian ballistic missiles struck Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, where U.S. assets and personnel are stationed.
On Sunday, as the U.S. and Iran launched more air assaults, the U.S. announced that a service member was killed Saturday in Iraq during the controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone.
The deaths in Jordan were the first combat fatalities since the U.S...

“ bombing Iranian leadership to make them comply and enter the global free market of trade”
But since your “global free market of trade” is ruining our nation, many non-brainwashed Americans find fighting a war to do that actively harmful to their families.
When you want American news & opinion, always go Multicultural.

But at least the LA Times has an American name on the masthead.

Bomb the living crap out of these a-holes. Destroy their government buildings. Destroy their bridges. Destroy their weapons factories. Destroy their ports. Destroy their bridges and road infrastructures.

“News Analysis: Trump, long a critic of ‘forever wars,’ may be stumbling into one with Iran”
this is the latest Dem media talking point that has been sent to all their leftist lying propaganda media allies to start hammering on: Manchester Guardian JUST published the very same “analysis” ... they’re once again hoping to split Trump’s base ... and it might be working a little bit, at least here at FR where concern trolls have been given an excuse to express their “conern” ...
and my response to them has been as follows:
“Trump needs to calm this down before the November midterms.”
indeed ... to start with, he needs to bend the knee to the Manchester Guardian and beg them to cease writing bad shite about him ... then he can move along to do the New York Times and WaPo ... after that, he can do NBC/CBS/ABC/CNN/MSNOW ... at that point, President Trump becomes the useless squishy RINO Bushite that people like you so admire and love ...
perhaps Trump could then back some laws that the Manchester Guardian and their ilk could get behind, like reinstate CAFE standards, reinstate the entire “green” agenda that he recently dismantled, quit domestic drilling so the USA can become dependent again for our fuel from countries that hate our guts, follow EU’s lead and ban air conditioning, cut defense spending so we become defenseless, mandate that only EVs can be manufactured and sold ten years from now, ban electricity generated from coal and natural gas, ban all natural gas appliances, you know, so the Manchester Guardian will love President Trump and things would calm down before the midterms ... after all, all of that worked so well for Bush, McCain and Romney ...
One thing I know Trump will not do is send ground troops into Iran - I would back him if he wanted to seize and hold Kharg Island, though.
Apparently the LA LA Slimes is unaware that Iran has been at war against us for almost 50 years but we have just begun to fight.
Trump wanted war in 1980 against Iran.
Elections?
Could be.
That ain’t enough time in my opinion if this goes the negative way.
If we have to “force” the issue in denying Iran the ability to build a nuke and project force as in the past, we will have to take out (((A LOT))) of targets. You’re basically going to have to take out their infrastructure in transportation, communications, power, and water. Go after their leadership, bureaucracy, industry and economy (oil and gas)... Tens of thousands of targets.
But it can be done.
If you pound them long and hard enough, eventually you bring them down to a point where it’s hard just to keep basic government services going, where food and water become the priority, where complex military industrial tasks and support to their proxies in Yemen, Lebanon, Nigeria and Iraq are cost prohibitive.
Trump isn’t Biden, so if Iran fires off one missile or long range drone our media will claim Trump failed. But yes, we can reduce Iran to the point where they can’t really project force as in the past.
He’s not like Bush and his ‘forever’ wars.
Russia is a nuclear power with 4,400 - 5,400 warheads, 24 TIMES the economy of Iran, about 5 times the manufacturing, 1.5 times the population...
Russia has forces abroad in areas where we are operating and could easily arm bad actors (proxy games) in a way that directly screws us over (MANPADS to some of the shia militia in Iraq for example).
Iran is a regional threat and their repertoire of threat systems is a drone and ballistic missile with a conventional warhead. That’s about it.
What are you talking about?
The left and media and RINOs and their hatred of Trump, you mean...
If Iran hurts Trump, they’re fine with that. Just collateral damage to the USA, but TDS gets assuaged.
"Forever War"?
More like "Forever Freeptard".
Considering the Iranian regime has been. carrying out attacks on us for over 40 years, the forever war has been just that long before Trump ever fired back.
The difference here is that Donald Trump declared that Iran had been “defeated” about three dozen times in the course of the last 4+ months.
In this particular scenario, Trump DID fail ... because he was ranting months ago that Iran's military capabilities in this regard had been destroyed.
That isn’t true.
THAT would DEFINITELY be a "forever war."
If the United States takes Kharg Island, how hard would it be to defend?
https://x.com/i/grok/share/b473699175984ce69c4fce496fa61088
Very hard to defend long-term, despite being relatively straightforward to seize initially. Kharg Island (also spelled Kharg or Khark) is a small coral/limestone outcrop in the northern Persian Gulf, roughly 25–30 km (15–19 miles) off Iran's mainland coast near Bushehr. It measures about 8 km long by 4–5 km wide (~20 km² or ~8 sq miles), with low elevation (max ~70–87 meters). It hosts massive oil infrastructure handling ~90% of Iran's crude exports (up to ~7 million barrels/day capacity, ~30 million barrels storage), plus an airport, jetties for supertankers, and military sites.
Seizing It Would Be Feasible for the US
The US military could likely capture it with a brigade-sized or smaller force (estimates around 1,200–4,000 troops, e.g., a reinforced Marine battalion landing team or airborne elements from the 82nd, supported by MEUs with Ospreys, helicopters, and naval gunfire/air support).
Defending It Would Be Extremely Difficult
This is the core challenge. Kharg sits too close to the mainland (~25 km), putting it in easy range of Iranian fires from the coast and interior. Key problems include:
Strategic Context
Where have they been the last fifty years...
Technically 47 years.
