“Please choose responsible landscaping alternatives”

If you hate data centers as much as I do, then bamboo becomes an extremely responsible landscaping alternative!

I don’t know how much to believe. China wants the US to not have data centres, so it can leap ahead of the United States. So, it’s funding these opposition groups to run interference.

Having said that, we should be doing what we can to not interrupt lives to have these things.

I am afraid that a lot of people will not realize that this is a joke. Planting bamboo has no negative consequences for AI Data Centers even though it can be a real pain to get rid of.

China wants the US to not have data centres.

China spends less than 1/20th on data centers compared to the US. I doubt that this is something of great concern to them. Since the vast majority of funds spent by the US on data centers is an obscene waste of effort and money with no realistic ROI... they are more likely to celebrate this stupidity.

The person who spread this nonsense is Kevin O’Leary who claimed without releasing any believable evidence that local opposition to his monstrosity was funded by the CCP. And of course many people naturally accept this type of nonsense as gospel.

I'm sorting through all the misinformation. According to this report, US agriculture uses 80 percent of America's freshwater, while data centers are well below 1 percent. It is likely China is a player in this anti-data center campaign, but more likely we are a victims of our own anti-capitalist stupidity. It's like we're against building factories in the 1800s.

Some new consumer computers can already run Large Language Models (LLMs) on them. I predict that within a few years, personal computers with massive GPUs and massive amounts of RAM will be readily available to the public, making most AI data centers moot.

Because of this inevitability, I think that the vast majority of AI data centers currently being proposed won't even be built or will be abandoned before completion.

Planting bamboo will attract pandas to the area.

Agreed.

Within a couple years most ground based AI will be running on people’s laptops for personal use.

A few years after that AI will be running in orbit for commercial, enterprise, and governmental use.

Big land based datacenters are a temporary aberration. The established ones like AWS, Azure, etc. will remain but this crop of proposed new ones is likely to fizzle.

I agree 100 percent.

But I wonder how I will be cooling my new super AI lap top?

Large Language Models (LLMs) ..... You have a $3000 one at home full 128gb ram. You are a fool n clown, the only thing you will use for is making AI images of your cat chasing cockroaches.

I believe many data centers actually recycle water, and those that don't send it, evaporated, into the atmostphere to return as rain.

I'm generally inclined against data centers because I'm pro-nature, but I only want to provide negatives that "hold water".

It’s true. When I lived in Panama, one of my landlord’s neighbors chose to build a “privacy fence” of bamboo. The neighbor later sold the property and my landlord tried to uproot the bamboo which had begun encroaching on his land. He had to dig under the topsoil and pull out the roots which were feisty and wouldn’t uproot easily.
