Newly Discovered Evidence: Is The Trojan Horse History's Biggest Deception? [51:39]
YouTube ^ | May 5, 2026 | Odyssey - Ancient History Documentaries

The history of the Trojan horse is probably one of the most famous stories ever told. A gigantic wooden horse is loaded with Greek soldiers and presented to the Trojans as a gift. Unsuspecting, they swallow the bait and pull the horse into the city. Under cover of darkness the Greeks slip out of the horse and open the gates to their comrades. Only hours later the mighty Troy goes up in flames. But what if the myth of the horse is not true at all? New, groundbreaking findings show that one of the most famous stories of all time will probably have to be rewritten. The Trojan horse was probably not a horse at all. But then how did the Greeks outwit their enemies? And what history will we find in the history books in the future?

There Priam sat with the city Elders, Panthous, Thymoetes, Lampus, Clytius, Hicetaon, scion of Ares, and the wise men Antenor and Ucalegon. Too old to fight, they were nevertheless fine speakers, perched on the wall like cicadas on a tree that pour out sound. Seeing Helen ascend the ramparts, they spoke soft winged words to each other: 'Small wonder that Trojans and bronze-greaved Greeks have suffered for such a woman, she is so like an immortal goddess. Yet lovely as she is, let her sail home, not stay to be a bane to us and our children.'
The rest of the Trojan men -- "Sez you!"

Spot on. The Trojan Horse story is, in a way, a metaphorical Trojan Horse.

I can remember one instance. He asked why the sky was blue. I explained it is the sunlight reflecting the blue ocean.

Years later he scolded me when he made a fool of himself in class.

I don’t believe the Trojan Horse is mentioned in the Illiad. It is mentioned in Virgil’s Aeneid.
My favorite movie is still HELEN OF TROY from 1956.

“King Odysseus, the great warrior Johnson perished before the walls. We brought his personal effects to return to his household.”

“Hmm, those are some big condoms. This gives me an idea.”

“How’d you think of that so quickly?”

“I’ve lived in many cities of men, and learnt their mind. And guess what’s on all our minds, all the time?”

The name Aeneas is almost as funny as Uranus, btw.

[[In the belly of the huge wooden horse they drag into their city lie hidden the best fighters of the Greeks. ]]

Except for Timothy- he wasn’t that great- always a slacker who goofed off when he shoulda been studying

I liked the possibility, but yeah...it didn’t seem probable to me.

Oh, I get it. She distracted the guards with her...er...cannons, while the horse was rolled in behind her without a real inspection.

They could have probably heard the guys inside the horse giggling as they were pushed through...:)

It was actually the Trojan Whores. The Greeks sent them in and while the Trojan soldiers were distracted, the Greek soldiers attacked.

Guess what I’ll be playing for the rest of my waking hours, and some of my sleeping hours as well? Ad breaks, but the relentless rhyme scheme calls out for such.
