Customers Enraged As Cracker Barrel Makes Another Disastrous Move

Cracker Barrel is barreling toward yet another PR disaster, this time angering customers throughout the South for ditching a tradition on New Year’s Day.

In early September 2025, Cracker Barrel fully retreated from its proposed plans to modernize and remodel its restaurants to a more minimalist, corporate look and replace its old trademark logo, featuring “old timer” Uncle Herschel, with a boring, stripped-down version. They didn’t have much choice, as customers were enraged and their stock price had plummeted

You’ve shared your voices in recent weeks not just on our logo, but also on our restaurants. We’re continuing to listen. Today, we’re suspending our remodels. If your restaurant hasn’t been remodeled, you don’t need to worry, it won’t be. With our recent announcement that our…

The company is now facing yet another brewing PR crisis. Over the years, Cracker Barrel has quietly stopped serving black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day, a Southern dish that, according to legend, brings good fortune in the new year.

Cracker Barrel apparently hasn’t received the message yet. No black eyed peas on New Year’s Day in the South? As my grandmother once told me, never forget where you came from. pic.twitter.com/OMVzlqHpDY

One more example, albeit a small one, of white liberal women destroying America as we know it. In this case, Sarah Moore threw the long-standing tradition of serving black-eyed peas on New Year’s out the window. Cracker Barrel hasn’t changed their spots. https://t.co/vuDWnPV2m1

Seems to me like you idiots haven’t learned a damned thing. Glad I decided to keep my family out of your new look and new menu. Cracker Barrel used to be a good place to go. Not so much anymore.@CrackerBarrel https://t.co/oz4uNpfZ4b

Now I find out Cracker Barrel no longer serves Black Eyed Peas on New Year’s Day. The woman at the head of this thing needs to be fired. She’s done nothing but causes problems since she took over by the way lady if you’re reading this your insights don’t work.

— John Stoll (@babybosn) January 1, 2026

As a proud Yankee, I was never familiar with the Southern tradition of eating collards and black-eyed peas on New Year’s until I married into a Southern family. Yesterday, however, was my second New Year’s of having a nibble of collards for wealth and prosperity, and black-eyed peas for good health. It’s a great tradition.

But, of course, the empty corporate suits who now run Cracker Barrel had to ruin it for the Southern customers. How many times can you shoot the same foot? We are learning that in Cracker Barrel’s case, there are no limits.

Good comment. I think our government is too involved in the economy, and what we have now is really Crony Capitalism, or what they used to call Fascism, which is a Left-wing Collectivist political philosophy. I don’t like where we are, and I think our society was a lot better 50 years ago.

But I’m lost as to the solution. Passing new laws to cripple “bad” corporate practices seems like something Mamdani would do. So I’m not in favor. But I look around and I get sad.

Private Equity firm bought out my public utility ISP. Now I have no internet because they refuse to send out a repairman. I called the PSC and they said they have no jurisdiction over a private company. I asked why did you let a private company buy out a public utility. No answer.

I have always like Capitalism. A Market Economy. Economic Freedom. But I look around at the world today and I see a whole lot of people (just about every business and institution) and it's all about SQUEEZING every possible cent out of everyone. Screw the public. Screw the employees.

Its NOT capitalism

America has a centrally-planned monetary system, with money backed by nothing. It is entirely based on the creation of debt

its not capitalism. Its using an advantaged economic and political position, close to the creation of new money, to grab producing assets

It's not new either. Economists described this phenomenon 300 years ago. Its just those ideas have been suppressed, in the name of the elitist, socialist prophet (and pederast) John Maynard Keynes

Capitalism is the only system that takes human nature into account. unfortunately greed can set in and create monopolies and that is the road dictatorship. The weak spot appears to be cooperations.

Our New Year’s Day custom is different—Pork and Sauerkraut! But we do it at home.

Cracker Barrel should continue to honor Southern New Year’s Day customs! Phooey!

The message for Cracker Barrel seems to be “never change anything”. They must be wildly popular just as they are.

Went into Publix on Wednesday... even before I got to the usual bakery items just inside the front door, I saw a table chock full of black-eyed pea bags.

No catfish in these here parts. Had a lovely ham steak to go with my collards, black eyed peas, rice, and cornbread. Delish!

I had pork and sauerkraut along with black-eyed peas (Hoppin’ John) on the first. No collard greens, though.

Those people are idiots. If they want to know how to present their store is simple. Ask your customers what they like. Do not decide what they like. Go to a biker bar and aside for a request of scantily clad young nubile waitresses they will give pretty good advice. They also want cheaper beer.

My above two paragraphs would have saved Cracker Barrel millions of dollars that were lost due to woke idiocy.

Swap the catfish for pork. This is the first year I didn’t do that. Complicated reason. It’s all okay.

Nope. They need to change their corn bread.

I absolutely relish the stuff, but once was enough for me at CB.

They need to sweeten it up.

Here's a trick. Tell that PC idiot of a CEO that instead of serving black-eyed peas on New Years day, the company can serve Black-eyed peas on New Years Day. Sorta of like the idiot news media does.

We went to Publix here and they were waaaay over-priced.

Nearly $4 for a 1 lb bag of dried peas.

Went to Piggly-Wiggly and bought 4 bags for $6............
