Newt Gingrich on Trump’s shutdown layoffs: ‘He’s willing to take the heat’
The Hill ^ | 10/12/25 | Ryan Mancini

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) praised President Trump for being “willing to take the heat” after thousands of furloughed federal employees were laid off during the government shutdown.

“What’s fascinating, if you watch, Trump has now begun to systematically lay off people permanently,” Gingrich said Sunday on the “Cats Roundtable” radio show hosted by John Catsimatidis on WABC 770 AM. “I think what Trump is gambling is that he can actually change the federal government dramatically during the shutdown.”

“He’s willing to take the heat because, frankly, when he’s busy going to the Middle East to be part of a peace treaty signing, that is astonishing, he’s got other big things he’s doing, so he’s not particularly bothered,” Gingrich continued.

But it could become “a different issue” when military servicemembers do not receive their next paychecks on Oct. 15 should the government remain closed, Gingrich told Catsimatidis.

“Frankly, I think Republicans ought to consider passing a military pay bill and see if the Democrats are willing to vote not to pay for the military,” Gingrich said.

Catsimatidis and Gingrich also discussed Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) employees going without pay, which Gingrich said lawmakers should consider addressing too.

“The people who are keeping this government closed are the Senate Democrats, led by [Senate Minority Leader] Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), and my guess is Trump will hold out as long as he needs to,” Gingrich said.

The best way to END the shutdown is for Trump to actually WANT the shutdown.

A few hundred gummit moochers here or there isn't going to make much of a difference, want to see a couple of whole agencies shut down in the coming days.

I wished they lived in DC. Ask NOVA and Maryland where they live.

People here get mad at me for bringing this up all the time about Newt, but I will never forgive him for it. That moment revealed everything I ever needed to know about his character. I’m glad there are others like you that feel the same way.

‘He’s willing to take the heat’

Yep! Takes courage, strength, moral fortitude, self-sacrifice, and heroism, the magnitude of which can come only from God.

Also, if anyone is a fan of the story Madeline the artist decorated the bar walls in the style. They now have an artist who paints lampshades in the style . He says they get stolen because people think they are real.

---- "That moment revealed everything I ever needed to know about his character. "

One looks at Democrats askance with darn good reason, but some Republicans are quite the Democrat-adjacent in their use of "buy-partisan-ship." Revolving doors aplenty keep well-connected politicians with a home and support, and this includes Republicans too.

One of the GOP's non-profits has some profiting nicely, as an example.

International Republican Institute

A look into their non-profit:

Dr. Daniel Twining -- President, $ 403,640 plus $ 89,995

Salaries and Wages -- $ 1,102,785 (directors) and $ 36,529,837 ( Other salaries and wages ) and $ 11,675,957 ( Other employee benefits )

Total functional expenses -- $ 128,088,761

Source: International Republican Institute Foundation

Nice work if you can get it.... but you can't.

praised President Trump for being “willing to take the heat”

Trump has won three presidential elections.

Doing the right thing is not only good for Our Republic, it is good politics as well.

Gingrich's view of the world is the uniparty/swamp view.

"The heat" that Gingrich refers to is from the ELITES.

Out here in the Heartland, there will be no "heat".

No one gives a twit about gubmint "featherbedders."

The first step in diminishing the 95% of Dem voters living in DC.

Trump should compile a list of all fed.gov employees in Northern Virginia and target them for firing.

Turn VA red again.

Get over petty selves.

Newt orchestrated the end of 40 years of a rat-ruled House of Reps. It was a political shot heard round the world.
